Did lowering the glass (as I said) allow you to get a pick in there to pull the latch?
Those clips can get brittle with age, but £13-ish for a new one is a bit steep isn't it?
From memory I don't think those clips fit on the interior handle where the cable attaches,they are more for the rods from the latch.Thanks for your help I went out and tried it again and the blessed door opened so was able to take the door card of.
From there it got a bit complicated, got in touch with my supplier and was told that I needed to buy the inner door handle
£80. Went on line and found the land rover part No FVF10002L[ sorry to upset any but I payed £5 for them in sealed LAND ROVER

I have spent the last 5 years stripping it down to the bare chassis welding the chassis in 2 or 3 holes it was not bad a condition other
than having to remanufact a new rear cross member
