Discovery gear linkage on a 110 V8 LT77

Hi all. First post, and very new to Land rovers, so please be gentle. I have recently bought a 1986 110 V8, mainly because it has a very interesting history.
However, being 6'3 tall, a few issues have raised their heads. The seat I have sorted, that was was easy. Steering wheel sorted, motalita. The gear lever is now an issue. I could do with it being a bit nearer, my other half cannot reach it at all now. ( the pedals are ok, just the gear lever). Now, my thinking is if I swap the linkage from a disco LT77 on to my defender, it will bring the gearlever nearer. Im not bothered about a bit of fabrication to make it look neat inside, thats ok, Just want to know if my thinking is right. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

gear lever will move some if nut undone and lever moved round on the splines ,or bend it disco idea isnt practicable

get a new girl friend, with longer arms

changing girlfriends is much more of a task than changing linkage. more expensive too.
