Hi all

Looking to get a discovery around the year 1999/2000 I have a budget of about 3k looking for a standard one so I can do all the mods like lift snorkel wheels and tyres etc on it so I know it's been done correct.

Anyways when looking at these what's the main things to check? Been told about rust on the boot for sills and main chassis members but is there anything else to check over electric and engine wise ? Any common faults etc? Looking for the 2.5 td5 engine

Cheers

thanks for the link

and with any after market modifications to anything there is the correct way and the bodge it and run way, im not saying im the only one that can do things, i just dont really want to have to take stuff apart to redo it again, sorry if this sounds like im the only one who can do it ?

thanks for the welcome all be it not the friendliest of ones to a new member :jaw::faint2::bolt:

You got what you asked for, albeit you could have found it yourself.
I could have given you the stock answer, do a search but I didn't.
You are not new you registered in 2011.
If you give me your address I'll come round throw a party and give you a cuddle, is that better.:p

See you again in 3 years when you decide to buy another Land Rover product.

Just to point out there is no need to quote a post that is above the one you are replying to

Also its very kind of you to offer to come throw a party etc but no real need i would rather you spent the time to learn how to reply in a non sarcastic and more welcoming manor

but as i said in first reply thanks for the link

Says who?

Manner!

Oh sorry I do apologise I spelt it wrong.

Think admin should delete this as it's clear new members (yes even though I registered quite a while back) are obviously upsetting old members by asking questions and not using the search facility, so I apologise if this is the case and bow my head and walk off in shame thinking that a forum was a place to ask and help people not to sit behind a screen and be sarcastic and ridicule people for asking for advice.

5 posts since 2011 your hardly be a loss, close the door on the way out chap.

Not upset

No sarcasm

No ridicule

Can I suggest if you are offended in the slightest by my answers, this may not be the right forum for you. Usually new(ish) members who ask the same questions time and time again get shot down in flames and told ;Do a search FFS, You got the answer to your question.

I'm done

I surprised you get any new members join if this is the welcome they all get? We all have to start on a forum somewhere people? We were all new at some point and forgot about the search box, or asked a silly questions.

Not offended in the slightest, I know how clicks form on some Internet forums and how some are always happy to jump on the new members/posters for asking silly questions or questions that have been asked before. guess from what I have read I thought this place would be different but I guess I was wrong?

Try Difflock or Landytown as said before 5 posts since 2011 shows your a taker and not part taking in forum.

Bye bye

Ffs mate, you asked a stupid question and got some stick. If you can't take a little p take- this isn't the place for you. Buy a Toyota instead, they're much more reliable

Oh and thanks for the entertainment!

PS Quoting the post above is quite normal, or haven't you even been reading for the last three years?

PPS no "click" here, I know no one.

Hi Gazza, re your original question - the biggest single most important thing to look out for on a D2 imo is chassis rust. Examine the chassis from the rear axle to the rear bumper VERY CAREFULLY. It is no understatement to say that some are like lace and costly to repair properly.

Re the response you got - Biggeeee's on rag-week mate, what can you expect?

Dave

hello, also, check the red plug on the ecu as oil can be drawn down to the ecu.if the plug is wet with oil,you need to change the injector harness and drain the ecu onto some kitchen roll,if your lucky you wont get much oil drain out, after the injector harness has been fitted, the flow of oil should stop altogether, but check it every week until it does.

its situated under the battery cover and is screwed to the plastic battery wall, its best to use a stubby Phillips screwdriver to get into the single screw, remove the bottle jack for ease of access.
