It's only out at last, removed diff first thing this morning had to work all the chassis bolts were tight had to work them in and out a few times with WD40 but they came out ok diff dropped it down with trolley jack, manage to get it jammed briefly needs a goog clean soaked in oil
Engine lifted out in same way as D3 with same lifting frame, although going to move rear eyes forward slightly as tight to bulkhead, lifted out similar but had to remove gearbox cooler pipes and auxiliary heater line as it goes behind shield on engine, sump was very tight on steering rack had to be careful not to hit pipes, finally got it on stands on the floor, will have a single malt and a beer or two now mate all the best guys

Been working on missis mini turns out the oil pump drive chain was impersonating timing chain death rattle so waiting for parts
Back on D4 today removed, alternator bracket, egr, and turbo and manifold finally have part number ah2q-6k682af London turbos £300 each
Unbolted torque converter and pulled off box fitted nicely under bench, motor on stand now ready for rebuild, I suspect leak is front crankshaft pulley changing belts idlers tensioner, oil pump, sump gasket and oil level sensor, plus most likely engine mounts, sort the vacuum system and replace rocker covers one is cracked hopefully not too much more Lol
Back on mini for a day or two then another quick D3 engine switch but will be doing bits at same time all the best

We have a Mini/BMW specialist at work (ex-dealer master tech) he mentioned a while ago he'd been caught out with oil pump chain rattle masquerading as timing chain rattle, that said, whilst you're in there, it makes sense to change both.

Yes mate was convinced it was timing chain ordered full oil pump chain kit comes tomorrow timing chain and tensioner were in need of change again bought a full kit already, and vanos too

timing and or oil pump rattle gone, did find small bit of timing guide in oil pump sprocket cover removed sump nothing in there or oil pump mesh new chains fitted, and all back together, changed oil and what used to be an oil filter, resisting rant, going to flush again after a run or two,
Fired up straight away, no rattles (so far) already runs better idles great
Quick tidy and D3 in and cheap run around for missis all the best

Nice one! I do find that people just 'give up' on all maintenance if they perceive there's a potentially costly problem - sometimes caused by skimping on, or just skipping maintenance.

Finished mini, bought a topdon pro diagnostic some time back worked fine to reset timing/vanos, passed mot Saturday no advisories
D3 in workshop using motor and interior, but will have a multitude of parts for sale, including boxes, all panels in black will advertise appropriately, shame but at this point needs so much work, and I need an engine quickly for my 09 as am selling but not with my motor as D4 changed plans, looking for something else for that all the best

We have a couple of 'TopDon' at work for the non core brand cars, that said, it's often quicker to use 'Don' than it is to fire up the manufacturer diagnostics

Yes pretty good tool I have artidiag pro has done everything asked so far, on several different vehicles needed it for D4 for sure would highly reccomend
Stripped out front end everything just about undone, just rad pack and pipework to remove all undone ready, waiting for a lift, alternator to remove and then its underneath going well so far just got too cold tonight all the best
