Tailgate today still waiting for brakes turned up at 4 this afternoon
Removed the panel, struts and latch loosened the top two 13mm bolts both were loose and moved the hinges back to their paint marks bit of fettling (about an hour) and lined up spot on refitted latch and new struts from maltings, cover etc
Reconnected battery manually closed tailgate pressed button and prayed it worked opened and closed pulls down even so dead chuffed even the gesture opening works notice witness marks on hinge where someone trying to fix it with a hammer I was lucky they didn't have a bigger one
Have never seen so much wiring in a tailgate!
Onto brakes tomorrow full service next week then can try to find the gearbox fault struggling to find a service kit for 9 speed will ring around Monday
Have a great weekend

Awesome mate that you’ve made a lot of progress and indeed also seen some of the wiring diagrams and was also taken badk how much was fitted to a simple hatch 🤣

See what u mean about service kits for the 9 x speed gearbox

Did find some atf oil of its any use to u

As a side note also fitted terrafirma brakes to my d3 and were very happy with the quality , certainally made a,or of difference , also got the ceramic brake pads , took a little while to bed in and blimey it was impressive how well they stopped the d3

Thks again in for sharing this awesome thread as find it so interesting , yeh I know I need ro get out more , lol

Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing more of how ur getting on

Bless you mate think I have found a sump will get you to check it out before I buy
Yes I bought the same discs as you had ceramic rears but ebc front sorry for copying Lol if they were good enough for you
Was too cold today decided to leave brakes until tomorrow so plucked up courage and plugged in topdon multitude of codes as I expected due to battery being knackered, did a quick clear only two codes came back b1412-96 attributed to the quiescent relay box although seem to be getting no related symptoms checked fuses and supply plugs etc its plug and play might switch out
Other code is uo055-87 vehicle communication bus d can attributed to the camera? which doesn't work
But was no historic gearbox faults?
Must admit was expecting more will see what happens if anyone has had these issues or can give me a heads up would be most appreciated

Fitted front brakes this morning all went ok nothing seemed particularly seized all cleaned up and looks much better
Was going to fit rears but 9mm allen key never turned up, took three attempts to put park brake into service mode, may have indeed been seized but pistons retracted now will be fitting disc and pads on Wednesday
Ordered 5L of lifeguard 9 and filter, also haldex service kit and liquid moly suspect this might be the issue will see
Will also change rear diff oil as it's on stands and level
Probably do a bit more to D3 motor tomorrow while waiting for allen socket

Think you were spot on @Firebobby1 handbrake diagnostic twice said not satisfied third time heard the motors run, got a successful message checked and pistons are indeed retracted I reckon they were indeed a little stuck all the best
My mate found out after driving his sport about 100 miles and noticed the hot smell of brakes.
It cost him a fortune to sort out, I'm sure you will sort it for a lot less
👍

Doing a sterling job as always mate , I’ll check those codes for u in some of the many bookmarks I’ve collated over the years

Enclosed some pics of the brake I got , very pleased with them , along with of course changing all the brake fluid with the ATE class 6 fluid , alas shame I can’t use the brakes at the moment with it being laid up 🤣🤣

Did also have the same issue with my calipers binding , another reason I replaces all x 4

Will let u know if i find any details about the codes for u

Ref the EPB , there was me thinking of the module mounted above the spare wheel like the D3 then realising it has its own caliper , doh , lol

Keep up the great work

Apologises if you’ve already seen this but looks like the canbus 60 ohms test is required to check the high and low canbus circuit

Finally managed to find the actual name of the gearbox

ZF 9HP48 9-speed automatic transmission, seems the oil and filter change as per usual are different from JLR

IMG_4644.jpeg

  • In the first years of production, owners often complained about inappropriate shifting and even an involuntary transition to neutral. But subsequent firmwares fixed this.
  • With rare oil changes, the valve body solenoids quickly become clogged with wear products and the gearbox begins to push. So renew the lubricant in this transmission more often.
  • The most famous weak point of this automatic transmission is the input shaft. It is squeezed out by oil pressure and when the pressure decreases, it simply cuts off its teeth.
  • When the transmission overheats frequently, the rubber parts in it become tanned and leaks appear. The forums also describe cases of failure of the TCM unit, which has not yet been repaired.

Thanks mate your a star will go through the information you sent, its always the finding of information i find most difficult bless you sure I'll be pestering you to clarify bits for me Lol
7mm allen key turned up so can get on with brakes later when it warms up a bit cold this morning
Going to change the haldex oil by removing pump this weekend and cleaning filter as a first step kit on the way, pump not too expensive if needed and easy to remove not betting man but haldex filter is clogged I'll wager
Yes mate reckon you were right about handbrake going to look at if I can remove the motor and lube anything while fitting discs will mark it an put it back the same
Will do a couple of test drives to make sure their not getting hot
Hopefully can use today or tomorrow, trying to "borrow" a ramp at local mot place for an hour or two to do oils would be warmer
Will post a few pics later all the best

Started on tdv6 then it stopped raining so moved on to sport brakes, seemed quite straightforward as the fronts lots of rust and muck good clean up and pistons pushed back easily, handbrake pistons sit back beyond hydraulic pistons in service position, pumped up calipers seems to be no binding at this point, now to worry about other main issue, lifeguard 9 arrived today also the quescent relay box dont want to drive it too far until I've done boxes and haldex

Interesting journey to work and back drove starts and drives fine, for about two miles the you can feel a strange resistance from the wheels accompanied by hdc not available and aed not available I think didn't have glasses then two wheel drive only but continues to drive fine didn't have diagnostic but not sure it's going to show a code as it didn't previously and had done it before so will see I suppose
Filter for gearbox came today, but my money on the haldex but will benefit from service I'm sure
Not planning on driving in this state until all transmission components are serviced then will run live data all the best

Put sport on stands today and removed the haldex was about 50% clogged sludge no chunks put a multi meter on ohms should be 5-8 ohms I believe this one reads 11.8 so I'm thinking at this point pump is long gone, so ordered oem today
Looked at replacing the haldex if necessary but will go the way of second hand diff complete with haldex some low mileage ones advertised local breaker and evilbay at under £300 so might be the way to go if pump doesn't resolve issue,
Have a great weekend

i fitted these discs all round on my sdv6. awsome bit noisey though. going with yellow suff next and brembo 4 pot calipers
apparently quieter ???

terrafirma discs, toyed with brembos but unsure of transmission costs, but will most likely use them on my sdv6, have standard size brembos and ebc pads on my 2.7
