Rangy alloys on a Disco would they work matt black?

Ye you doing great. Most people scrap or sell disco's in that condition. And hat's off to you for doing all the work on your drive, having to keep everything tidy and pack everything away at the end of each day. I couldn't do it that's for certain. Keep up the good work, it'll be well worth it.
 
It really depends on what quality you want... I don't think I've gone for the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive. I don't intend to do mega heavy off roading though just in the forest and round local fields so I didn't see the point in mega buck stuff. Best of luck with it though, I got most of my stuff from Island 4x4 and Paddocks, but depending on what you want there are loads of places... :)

I have used both paddocks and 1sland 4x4 few times before.

I've sent island 4a4 an email asking for a complete brake set n disc...blar...blar...price. lets see what materialises.

AHHH now your making me all weepy..... :) Thanks mate, it is a pain putting stuff away but if you saw my garage you'd know I've got so much stuff if I don't put it away it gets very messy very quickly.... My wife already thinks its a s£$t tip....:D Although its taking time to do I'm really enjoying the learning experience, I've never done anything like this and its great to take on things that I never understood or even dreamed of doing, if you'd said to me before I'd started that I would be doing a timing belt I would have laughed but when taking it stage by stage I've learned about each bit...... It'll be nice once its done to know that I can fix or replace anything on the car...:D
 
Had a good weekend at the Landy. The Stallion popped in and berated me for being an idiot in not being able to find the pin hole for locking the crank saying it was obvious.... :p.... I hurmphed and mumbled about Haynes description being rubbish, he didn't take that as an excuse and said I was still
an idiot... :(

Anyway on the good side the stud removal tool I bought worked a treat... really pleased heres the pics of it...

Just locks on like a drill chuck...



Impact wrench in it slipped the first couple of hits then it tightened off and...



Out it came... you can see the corrosion right along the shaft...


Anyway with that out I then finished off the belt and put it all back together. I've drained the oil ready for a change so can't start the motor yet, but I did the two revolutions and the injector pump pin slipped in beautifully so I'm hoping everything is lined up correctly. Did the dog nut went on and i torqued it up to over 300nm ... Thats as far as my wrench goes, so I clicked it and pulled some more should be fine??? :D So once I'd done all that I washed out the rad and started on the front body work which I was still on when it got dark tonight. Just having a little problem with the welding, trying to get clean metal to get a clean weld is a night mare....but if I keep cutting back I won't have anything left and I don't want to replace the whole lot. Think I may buy those part repair panels from island. Anyway we will see....

That tool looks good, going on the list :D

Is it your front wings you are welding? If so I gave up on mine and brought 2 new ones :eek: cost a bit but seam sealed everything out of the box, etch primed and few coats of polyurethane paint. Mine did need every panel listed on yrm though :(

Now where are the other pics ;)

Lol.... Restricted access due to bad welding ;) I will have another look on YRM s site, I was going to buy the little side trims for the boot floor from them as well so might get everything in one... The other thing is the front body mount which need repairing trying to work out how I can lift the body in that area to get them out. At the rear it was fine cause I jacked up the cross member cant do that at the front. Might try from the front of the new sill and see if that lifts it enough just to drop the rubber out....
 
Can't help you with that one, I welded mounts onto sill before fitting and did body off gor the rest. There should be enough flex in the shell to jack up enough to remove.

Yeah just don't want to twist anything. Its only the two at the very front which need repair the ones by the sills and under the arches are "fine" :lalala:.. ok so not perfect but plenty left to support the body and when cleaned up and painted will last a few years yet. The two front ones are mot failures so need welding up could do with just getting the rubbers out the bottom so i don't set them on fire like everything else when I weld.... Its not pretty and usually evolves a lot of screaming. :D

They were ok on mine. I had 2" of twist in the shell when off the chassis. Was sat on level concrete on stands under the sills at mount points and one corner was raised by 2". Granted no doors, roof, windscreen or floor. All went back ok and all doors on and swing as they should.

Yeah i'll try right at the front of the new box section sill and see what happens :D
 
Are you talking about the very front body mounts by the rad or the ones at the bottom of the bulkhead?

If the front rad ones then I drilled through the spot welds on the light box and undid the body mount bolts to remove the whole thing then replaced the light box complete with new mounts bolted the mounts back on to get position then plug welded the new light box back to the slam panel.

pics are in my rebuild thread....

If you mean the bulkhead ones then although I have not done them myself with the inner wing removed I would support the sills then drill out the spot weld on the mount and then replace and re weld

Yeah those are the ones I just don't really want to replace the light box as its in ok nick... I have got some u section 3mm steel which fits in perfectly i just need to weld a mount hole to it then I can cut out the old one and weld this one in place... if that makes any sense whatsoever.. :D

Yes makes sense.

If its any easier you can buy those bits HERE seperately

Cheers mate, I'm getting there slowly, it makes it a lot harder with the cold weather and shorter days. Hoping to have her back on the road early part of next year and then I can continue doing bits and bobs to finish her off.... :D
