if dot (scallop)on the crank pulley is fully aligned keyway is at 12,fly wheel slot should be aligned too unless you have an earlier flywheel instead of 300 flywheel
Not that Im aware of Its an LT77 If that makes any Difference.
Need to check all these Marks again in the morning , got my head done in now. First time I did it I used crank bolt, but now I have wheel back on, will take it off again and start again to see if All marks and slots ect line up correctly after 2 rotations.
Bloody hard work crawling under truck every few minutes then back out again to turn crank ect ect , think I'm getting to old for this :(
Im sure it will get sorted with help from here though, just hope its not an Expensive fix, otherwise Ill be stealing more parts from my Disco.:)

it cant be so easy to get marks aligned with rad in place, mirror might help

These marks must really need to be Very Precise . So say It Is Slightly out, would this cause the bad starting and Smoke issues ??
not that precise adjustment is a tooth on the belt so noticeable with the cam timing, injection pump ineed to be precise hence the slotted holes for fine adjustment you dont have with the cam,but it helps to start right a tooth out gives poor running

9.5 pin slides easy in and out, Marks lined up Perfect but flywheel Slot can't be seen through plug hole. Can't see Woodruff at front as wheel is back on, but got to be out too as slot not lining up

Can you take photos of the alignment marks, and pump alignment please.
Did you try the screwdriver in the wade plug hole trick to see if you can feel the slot?
Was the key put back into the keyway on the crank on the front pulley?

What do you mean you cannot see the woodruff as the wheel has been put back on?

Cheers

Right took big wheel off and can see Woodruff key at Front now. So change of scenario. First pic, 9.5 Pin in, marks and Key out can't see slot in flywheel. Second pic key lined up, can see slot in flywheel, marks slightly out. but Pin won't go in.

slacken those 3 bolts on the fuel pump timing and with the flywheel slot visible realign the fuel pump pulley so the 9.5mm drill goes in and retighten the 3 bolts.

That is how it should be.

Slackened bolts. Slot visable, How do I realign pully without moving anything else ?

Put lock pin in flywheel slot.

22mm socket on the fuel injection pump ctr bolt turn it until 9,5mm pin aligns , put pin in, and then tighten the 3 fuel injection bolts. pin should now slide in and out and the flywheel slot should be visible and all other marks should be lined up.

Pull flywheel slot pin, pull the fuel pump pin and rotate the crank twice.
Check FIP pin and the flywheel slot, plus other timing marks.

Cheers

Only got pin for Pump, is there any way I can put something in Flywheel slot to hold it whilst I do this ?

If you put it in gear then as long as the 3 bolts are slack the crank and cam should stay aligned , just check it after and see if the flywheel slot hs moved once all bolts tightened up.

not having the correct tools is half your problem.

cheers
