As of yesterday, at the south edge of Normandy it was 1.289 euros a litre. You don't need to speak to the French to buy, although a smile will help, just fill up and drive to the payment booth at the exit and pay. If paying cash check your change! Some pumps and fuel stations do not always take UK credit and debit cards.
