yes I'm trying to order a alternator and that's what they asked for thanks Andy
They should only need the numbers off the alternator body.
Make sure you order the alternator with a 14.2volt set point.
Sorry I don't know where the engine number is, it's probably detailed in RAVE and will be on your V5 or whatever they call it these days.

hi thanks for the reply's I havn't removed alternator yet as it's not failed just only putting out 13 volts at most the V5 says engine number unknown I will look at engine tomorrow thanks again Andy.

May have had an engine change. Engine number should be on V5. Get the numbers off the alternator as Keith says. If it's only giving out 13 volts odds on it will just need slip rings cleaning up and a new regulator and brush set. This should fit if it's a 105 amp Valeo. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-VALEO...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item232736b60b It's what i used on mine.

At what rev's is it putting out 13v? think the earlier diesels have a lower set point, mine is 13.97 1998 with alternator number A13VI18. Dansk industries id X07791/4 if they can cross reference it.:)

Should all be 14.2 Alan. Except petrols fitted with 150 amp unit which is 14.5.

Mine is rated less than 150 amp think its about 90, on the whisky at the mo getting ready for tomorrows departure but I will post tomorrow morning. In a pleasant state presently :D:D

All doozels from year one should be 105 amp. Have a good do, you will be a lot warmer than i will be for the next three weeks you jammy bugger. :D:D:D

Think Keith posted in the last few days that the earlier models had a lower voltage set point

Not as far as i am aware they didn't. 13.8 used to be pretty standard with lead acid batteries back in the day. A lot more boiled the electrolyte off. Now with calcium batteries you need 14.4 to even have a chance of keeping them topped. So even the 14.2 set point is going to struggle with one of those fitted. :);)

Early diesels 95/96 had alternator set point at 13.76 volts, not a lot of use with a new battery.

Where did you get that information from Keith? As far as i am aware the P38 2.5 has always had the 105 amp unit with a set point of 14.2.

Directly off the alternators from a 95 and a 96:) Original items too. May well be random use of old stock as is LR's standard practice.

The A-133 alternator of 65 and 80 amp was used on classic diesels. Maybe someone fitted the wrong unit. Or the wrong regulator. The P38 diesel regulator was changed from STC2225 to 8510284 at some stage but as there is no VIN to or from quoted, one can assume it is was not a modified up rated part. Maybe they used old stock from the classics as you say.
