Diesel check engine light

Bought a Nano com Evo for p38 diesel.
Read faults and got,
1. Injector timing value out of expected.
2. Glow plug fault.
3. Fuel cutoff solenoid fault.

After clearing faults 1 & 3 came back with CIL.
Item 3 is my fault .about a year ago on the faulty solenoid I removed plunger n power supply without replacing the whole thing. But it did not give any issues.

Guess this has nothing to do with the 4th injector. The CIL as before flickers or stays on most of the time.
Any ideas?

The number four injector measures start of injection point the signal from it is sent to the ECU. The ECU then compares TDC position from signals received from CPS and start of injection point from number four injector and modulates timing solenoid to correct injection timing. What is the timing modulation should be between 45% and 55%. If it is way high it means the chains have stretched and static timing is retarded, fault one maybe timing solenoid not having sufficient travel left to correct point of injection. That will make MIL lamp flicker or come on. If you have removed innards from stop solenoid, you will have horrendous issues if the quantity servo feedback fails and you get a runaway engine, which will more than likely destroy itself. The stop solenoid is the emergency back up to the quantity servo which stops the engine under normal conditions by setting fuel to zero.

A tired fuel injection pump also seems to retard the modulation as we've discovered recently. :)

Hi,
Got following data;
Fully warmed engine
Water temp - 86.9 C
Timing modulation - 94.37

Needle rpm - 728
Crank speed - 750
Start fuel - 32 mg/star
Fuel quantity feedback -62.5 to 63.75
Fuel quantity current - 4.5 to 5.0

Your advise appreciated.

Static timing is retarded due i would think to stretched chains. Get the static set then take more readings and see if things have settled down. Thinking about replacing the chains maybe a good move. I described how to set timing modulation within limits using Nanocom in a thread a couple of weeks ago have a look for it.

What is ELAB thingy?
When I ran it through nano it made some improvement but not sure.
Where is this ELAB thingy located?

I think wammers info is in this treadhttp://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/diesel-stalling-hot-weather-280887.html hope it helps

Elab is the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. The thing you have taken the innards out of and disconnected the power supply from. This Fuel Shut Off Solenoid - Genuine Land Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk Can be obtained a lot cheaper if you look for the BMW or VW part. Same on all VE pumps. ordered the Monarch fuei cut off switch.
In the mean time got a bigger issue. Car started smoking heavily while in traffic. bluish white smoke & could not see even the car just behind me. Managed to get back home , a 6-7 KM trip. Could not rev faster than 1200 as there was a noise tak, tak tak......from engine side at that RPM. No overheating or any other issue.
Removed the hose from intake manifold , it was flooded with oil. Could it be the turbo charger seals? Guess I have to open another thread for this.

Could well be depends on how much oil was in there. Some is normal a lot is not. Sounds very much like turbo seals. Would not advise driving until you get it sorted. Turbo is pretty easy to change IF you have good tools.

How much oil? There is always some. check the EGR if it has one and check for split or de laminating hoses.

It used about 1 ltr. Intake manifold was flooded.
What could be that noise? no, I'm not going to drive it until clear of everything.
No , my car is pre EGR.

But it will be costly to ship with it's weight.
If special tools are not required I can manage.
BTW, what size is the turbo to exhaust bolt?( 3 there)
