Hi
In need of advice. My 90 needs new shocks all round.I use it mainly on road with light off road use.Would fittng Gas Shocks give a more comfy ride or are they not worth the extra cash.
Problem is I like the wagon but am starting to suffer with bad back. Thanks for any advice........easyrider

I have found that gas-shocks have firmed up the ride so while they improve handling they might not do your back any favours.

Would a change of seat help as that way you could improve the handling but not at the expense of your comfort?
I drive different vehicles every day and find that some really make my back & hip ache yet the Vectra seats in my 90 enable me to spend 8-hours+ in the seat without any discomfort whatsoever.

i've just changed my shocks and springs on my 2002 d90 td5.

Yes, they are decarbon shocks and the springs are progressive from scorpion, but no lifting. My answer is that the handling is better especially when you do corners above 70kmh. Less body roll and you don't get the about to flip on the side feeling.

ride wise, it's smoother as the shocks react faster to the road.

I also fitted SD height Scorpion springs when I fitted DC shocks but in my case the springs were a step backwards.

I spent plenty of time explaining to the guy at Scorpion what springs I currently had fitted and what I was after but I ended up with springs softer than those I already had. While the ride is smoother (ideal for someone with a bad back) the roll is increased and I think it is only the shocks doing an excelent job that keeps me from ripping the new springs off and binning them. I had hard springs and wanted new hard springs (the old ones were badly rusted & pitted) but ended up with soft-medium ones, a step backwards for me.
I spoke to Scorpion about it and they were most dismissive (I should have learnt by now as they didn't want to know when my Exide Maxxima battery gave up the ghost) and instead tried to sell me a handling kit (anti-roll bar).
