hello landy peeps. a friend had a problem with her disco 2 that had her locked in her car for about a half hour. the roadside asistance number says this is what is called lockout. they say "you should be glad you have that feature, cause without it your car could be stolen." WHAT THE HECK are they talking about. i should be lucky to get locked in my own car because of accidentally hitting the panic on the fob? the only way she got out was because a dealer somewhere gave her a trick of holding the window button while turning key to start and the window went down enough to get the key out the window to her daughter to unlock from outside.
what if: it would have been really hot
: it would have been a young child
: the vehicle would have had emergency(fire, flood)
the land rover people say that the owners manual says dont do this while in car. who really reads owners manuals?? i have been a auto tech for 20 plus years and have never heard something so assinine in my life.
again, i should be lucky to get lock in my own car????????
does any one have any response to this or a way to make sure she can get out if it were to happen again??:mad:

make sure she remembers the trick:D

it really does seem dangerous that you could get locked in the car with no way of escaping, might be worth getting onto landrover and seeing if they have a way of disabling the lockout

lol my mondeo does it for fun in hot weather, while you're driving all the doors will lock and you can't open them from inside:rolleyes:, i just open the window with the engine running and then use key on outside;) but i do have a window hammer in the car incase of real emergency, hubs would kil me if i used it everytime the central locking played up!!!!

It's not just Landrover, many cars have this these days.

Perception of a potential problem seems way out of touch with reality ...

In the event of an accident the doors will unlock when the impact sensor is triggered.
..unless the impact sensor is fooked and rusty.
I have a small glass hammer strapped to uderside of steering coloum in Mrs Bobs car as we get alot of water here. There was a volvo 740 washed away month or so ago with 3 dead.only the driver lived cos he got out.It was washed off the road by swollen river and one of the dead uns was washed down river and turned up 40 miles up the coast on a beach!!

99% of aftermarket Thatcham alarms also have this feature as standard. its called an 'anti-carjacking safety feature' and is in response a real and genuine threat. idea is that you either lock yourself in the car and make it harder to be car-jacked, or ideally you lock a thief in the car till the police/mates with bats and golf clubs turn up and deal with it.
