In the past, AP were good, no idea these days though.
No, that's the problem. Borg & Beck used to be part of AP but they split off and took the technology with them. I'm not sure if AP even make clutches anymore of if this is just old stock or whether it is shipped in from China. I am hoping like hell it is still made where it used to be and the standard hasn't dropped.
Given Land Rover (or LUK / Valeo / Borg&Beck or whoever the original manufacturer was) must have covered their costs for the production run and each replacement part must be pure profit it is hard to see how they can justify it being nearly 3 times the price. You'd have thought Land Rover might be a little more respectful of those of us who try to keep the marque alive and kicking. There's room in the market for those buying a £110k motor and 20 years later those less fortunate to try maintain these ground-breaking vehicles.
Jaguar have a club where you can buy the parts off them because they know you'll just shop around the internet and go elsewhere. How Land Rover haven't woken up yet is a mystery. Look at Marty developing a filter for the RF unit. The fact it was even worth his while is a damning indictment.
