Sh1t mate, not good, how long you had it? Any chance of taking it back and getting your money back?

Might be an idea to get a cheap ebay motor that's rusted and use it as a donor ...

Did the garage say what the actual problem with the gearbox was? It might not be economically viable for a garage to mend it, but the knowledge on here is pretty good and someone might be able to help you out with it.
7 weeks ago off fleabay but thats life i s'pose **** happens wont hold me breathe about any recompence from the seller i aint even gonna try floggin a dead horse... just bit the bullet and probably get this fella to put the secondhand box in unless anyone knows how i can get it done cheaper... i know a mech who'll fit a replacement box for £150 but its sourcing a good box

wots this disco worth with a fecked box? feck all? lol, bloke at garge reckoned 3-400 for the engine cos its sooo good :D lol

If it was me, I'd never trust just one opinion on something with such a price tag.

Is it someone you trust, or just 'a garage'?

I also don't like the reason "they just go sometimes"....

Don't make any expensive decisions until you've had a few opinions.

How many miles did you say yours had done??

EDIT: this made more sense when I thought it than when I wrote it. I'm quite angry on your behalf!!!!!!

tis a garage but i have a sense of trust... cant see why he'd put a secondhand box in and a new cooler fitted for £550 if it didnt need it i wudnt have thort he'd make a fortune out the job but i really dont know, me mate whos a mechanic told me its a good price but he aint had a look yet, so i dunno

can u say how auto boxes feck up? cos i cant cos i dont know

im one of the tightest gits i know and believe me i wont part with a penny unless i know its absolutely gotta be parted with
100,000 miles :(
chin up it could be worse :D

I'm no expert on auto boxes, but I'm never happy with a big chunk of heavy metal "just going"

This is always the possibility that the previous owner stuff it up and it was right on the edge - maybe he also stuff the diff lock. Maybe we will never know!!!!

Too much fluid in it could have blown the seals, your forward clutch may have exploded.

dont think previous owner would have known it was on its way out, drove faultlessly smooth changes and kick down good nothing to suggest any probs, the diff lock i believe is common on l/r when they aint used... could go on forever summising but still end up at the same conclusion... its fecked and needs sorting :( ...... watch this space lol

OK

I need to clean Wales off the underside of my Disco, so I'm just off round the neighbours house to borrow a hose pipe......and a tap.......and the driveway :D

I don't want to clean it outside my house ;)

(Actually it's because my hose tap is bust, but still glad to do it else where!)
