I wanna know what you guys think is the best CB radio around for the money?

Were talking best value for money? or really expensive big dick CB?
Can be for any budget,
Why it stood out above the rest?
Best range/sound quality?
New products on the market?
Where you got it? links preferable...
How much you paid?
What you would recommend to a first time buyer...

And yes Im thinking of treating myself:D
So I figured Id ask a few people who have likely owned more than one in their lifetime...as I havent!

I have this antenna:

Thunderpole Orbitor SS | Mobile CB Radio Antennas | THUNDERPOLE.co.uk

With this CB:

TTI TCB-1100 | Mobile CB Radio | THUNDERPOLE.co.uk

To be honest the amount you spend on a CB radio system will not change the range you get (unless you go crazy) but really just depends on how well it is setup.

If you set it up perfectly you will get a good 15-20 miles but if it is not setup at all with an SWR meter then you may get less than a mile which for what most people use them for (green laning convoys) is adequate.

The only problem I have with mine is even with this extension speaker:

Thunderpole ES5WNF 5 Watts Speaker | Radio Extension Speakers | THUNDERPOLE.co.uk

I still can't hear what anyone is saying over the noise of my 110 if I am going anything over 40 anyway - but that is less of a problem with the CB just a problem with Defenders in general.

My advice - don't go crazy - buy one of the standard systems from Thunderpole.co.uk and also buy an SWR meter:

K-PO SWR 420 SWR Meter | SWR Meters | THUNDERPOLE.co.uk

With that you will do just fine.

First question would be what do you want it for

I recently bought one from someone on here, its only purpose is so I can go laning. I want to be able to ask someone what gear I should be in, and hear when they take the **** out of my driving :p:D I have no intention of straying more than a few hundred yards from the people who know what they are doing.

If however you intend to become one of the sad people I knew years ago who want to park on top of a mountain and try to talk to random people in other parts of the world, you need something completely different :D

Well Im not gonna be hoping to recreate any scenes from the film Frequency but some range would be good so Ill definitely make sure I do plenty of reading up before I go ahead and just wire one up and expect to speak to anyone outside the field im sat in...just for laning really would be good, thunderpole do some nice Radios definitely! Iare they cheapest from their own site do you know?
Also where is the preferred mounting location? dash or overhead;D

Orbitor antenna on a PSM-1 Mount on the rear section of the 110

Intek M100 fixed to lower dash between steering column & fusebox.

Less than 4" wide and about 1.5" high. very discreet and virtually invisible when peeping thru the door windows.

See thats one thing I would be torn on, I want it to be highly visible...because it tarts up the interior quite nicely I think!
But at the same time as you said, dont want any teevin little fookers putting my window through for a quick 20 quid!

Mine dates back to when they first became legal ... And it still works as well as ever with it's 'dial-a-match' twig.
The rig is mounted on a snatch bracket, and it shares the bench with the marine VHF radio.

Your noo to Landies aren't you????? The last thinbg you want to do is bling it up. Might as well just take it to a landy show and stick a "Free to good home" sticker on it. Cos you can be certain that if you fill it full of desirable toys some other Landy owner is gonna steal the fooker take what they want and flog what's left on Ebay..

Fraid so buddy:)

Dont get me wrong Im not gonna paint a stripe down side and get big shiny pedals and gear nobs, and take it to homebase car park after 4 on a Sunday and rev my V8 thinking Im badass!
But a few little creature comforts on the inside never hurt anyone:brick:

Besides knowing me Im far more likely to do away with the back seats and have a wood burning stove installed in the back...:scratching_chin:

I bought one of the starter packs from Thunderpole last year. It included an Intek M -150 cb, Orbital aerial (with bracket for the roof) and a SWR meter. It was on offer and works well (once it was pointed out that the reason it wasn't working was because it was on the European channels)

Get some security for it. Ya can open the doors on most of em with a teaspoon handle.

Yeah I was reading the security thread...

Wouldn't know where to start tbh, they're all breakable...eventually! If someone wants to get in they will.
I am gonna paint it all black, or nato green to make it more identifiable, maybe a few more distinguishing features. Aside from sleeping in it with a big fecking bat I dont know what would be best?

Start with a Disklok and pedal lock and build on that.
