Went and checked my chassis. Mine is pretty much mint apart from a few very superficial spots. Maybe the later cars were not as solid?!

No the latter ones were just as good underneath..

Suspect distance from sea, washing salt off and being garaged probably helps! Although no idea of the history of mine at all.

You can hunt/creep on the previous owner like I did and get every last detail regarding the vehicle.
She was originally bought by a wealthy Romanian Lady who had some involvement with The Land Rover dealer in Coventry, although she was quite brief with the description, however my poor car was routinely used to launch boats, so plenty of Salt..
Second owner used her to tow a large caravan across britian and europe

Mine looked bad, grinder revealed clean paint - the rust was actually (mainly) caked on clay/mud. With time and money I’d love to clean it up now this summer before gets bad. 24yrs it’s great, my defender was rotted after 18 and that was good un from new. I’ve looked it up and it’s off the road now - guessing new owner found out what I meant by itl need more than bit of weld.

The Engine will need going through, so why not strap an Aluminium lung to the top as the cherry on top

Guy from Blackpool living in the States dropped a 6.3 into his. Not sure he retained the 4WD though. See RR.net.

apparently the excuse ‘just checking the becm is asleep’ dont wash well with neighbours. Or rifling through bins looking for slave cylinders early hours

Prolly a 4L80E or 700r4 required..
Mind you your 630 has a ZF4hp24 in it, same as my 4.6 with a different ECU
So maybe the ZF can be built accordingly

Good 1s in a garage, only pax door is hidden from normal view of peeps, so safe there.
You don’t want to check the bins here trust me
