Can immobilizer go and seize engine

Our defender is with a dealership, it broke down engine turn but then cut off, alarm went. Was taken to dealership, they said it needed a new immobilizer, that was fitted, took 11 days, then they rang to say that engine was also seized!!!! Can both things happen at once, can they possibly had it all that time and not notice seized enginee??? New immobilizer and new engine, approximately£8000.00 if turbo doesn't need replacing as well.

How was the engine performing before it cut out, any noises, smoke, loss of power etc. How fast was you going when it happened? Has the dealer said which bit of the engine is seized? If it's big ends it might be easily repairable, if it's a smashed piston, not so much. Don't take the dealers word for anything, they are professional liars and thieves.
 
I'd be tempted to get it towed back home where you can ponder the next step at your leisure. If you leave it with the dealer long before parting with cash, they might charge storage.

Is it possible? Yes.
Sometimes , more than one fault can happen, at the same time. Maybe you should be asking the dealer, why it seized.

P.s maybe look around for a decent independent LR specialist. Then get vehicle recovered from stealers to them. Also a few more details on vehicle might help Defender gurus, help you. There is a dedicated Defender forum, try posting in there for more help
 
If they diagnosed that the immobiliser needed replacing they would not attempt to start the car until it had been replaced. Hence they would not know the engine was seized at the outset. What engine / defender model is it and when was the car last serviced with an oil change and when was the most recent oil level check? What engine oil is being used?

Ok thanks.
But is it possible they can have it for 11/12 days and not know it has a seized engine???

Like wot gold rover posted, start a new thread and put your questions in the Defender forum you will get lots of help there. Probably you will get asked a lot of questions too.

There was no noises smoke anything to indicate a problem, it just stop. That's why we thought it possible for immobilizer problem but not engine. They've said the big end bearing on number three cylinder is seized thus locking the engine.

P.s. it just stop going at snails pace at junction
 
They would tow a vehicle with immob problem so they wouldn’t try starting til after.

My defender did go to shops in town, came out 15mins later - dead. No warning, no smoke, no noises, nothing. Engine had seized even though there was oil in it. It was ‘98 TD5

Oil pump bolt? Cannot think of another reason why a well maintained TD5 would just seize without warning.

And yes Southview19, you need to ask this question in the Defender section.
