Still not heard anything... :(

The police think that it could have been some people from Ireland. They have done it before where they come over on a Saturday night when they know the short-staffed police department would all be out in town dealing with drunkards and what'nots. Last time they stole 5/6 defenders and put them in two lorries and then straight on to the ferry all within about 2 hours and were gone. As the ferry docks are only about 2 miles max from where it was stolen it's not surprising. I doubt I'll see it again... :(

I think then once they are in Ireland it takes time for Police to change over and organise things and by then the Landies have been stripped repainted and parts sold/shipped out to Africa and Spain etc.

As I said in an above post they had stolen another defender, a 110, from an area about 5 miles from where mine was parked. I'm going to ring the police again today to see what they are doing to find mine and any news on that guy's 110 or any others that were taken on the same night if any (night of 7th/8th May)

Dunno how they take them so quietly in the night. It was parked in a tight space between two cars, the battery was disconnected as I was in the middle of doing some work in the engine bay to sort out heater matrix and coolant problems (bloody 300tdi's!) even if reconnected battery, that then reactivates the immobiliser. Just sucks! :(

This was my 2nd Landy which has been stolen, didn't hear anything back about the first one in October 2006 and doubt I will about this one.

Sorry to hear about this fella ... can only assume it was lifted onto a low loader and taken to an Artic. Surprised nobody has seen anything though ... lets hope the Guarda over the water do their jobs ... good luck.

Cheers Andy, think you are right, though dunno how they got it out of parking space sandwiched tail to tail between two cars. Only thing I can think of is 4 guys, each with a trolley jack and pushed it out sideways, but that would be difficult as road surface isn't best and it's on a hill

Did you have any heavy duty mechanical immob like a Disklok or clutch claw fitted?

Against the pro's it's hard to stop them but having it wired up to the mains is what some do.

Yes I know it's technically against the 'law' (statutory) but in my book so is 'allowing' a crime to take place. ;)

It sounds like they might have used a hiab lorry to lift the land rover out of the tight space.

Surely someone would have seen/heard that happening?! Not exactly a big road, but is a main road and busy until 1-2am most nights and on a Saturday night probs later. They probably took it only about 10 minutes before I went outside in the morning to start working on it  I'd kick myself if that was the case, as I didn't want to get up early so had an extra half hour in bed lol

Still not found my Landy :-( Gone forever I think. But still waiting on insurance to pay out! This is agony, just having no car for over 3 weeks never mind not having a Landy - driving me insane

Sorry to hear that, its a rather lovely defender! I live near you, an i'll keep an eye out, but in all fairness, i think it might be gone... :(
Apparently people do just lift them onto a truck! Makes sense really, no messing about with hotwiring, sawing off disklocks etc. Im still surprised no one heard it!

Im about to wire an alarm in a friends defender made up of an IR motion detecting switch under the driver seat, and a marine horn, with a hidden lockable switch. Should blow the pants off any theives!
Good luck with the insurance dude!

Update: Insurance have offered me £2700, I told them to go back and rethink that offer. It was worth almost double that!! Now waiting again for them to contact me...

Hi LRD110 - just read your thread and wanted to offer sympathy (not much use I know). My Harriet went quietly in the night over a month ago and nothing heard since. Its replacement has all the security on it and round it I could muster - disklok, pedal lock, security lights etc etc - and I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't just lift it over the locked back gates. Hope you get some joy with the insurance.

If it gives you any crumb of hope, when my 72' S111 diesel got nicked a few years ago the insurance company offered £3k we eventually settled for £5.2k. If you will take my advice don't talk to the oppo at the end of the phone insist on speaking to their manager and then insist your claim is handled my someone with specific Landrover experience.

UPDATE: The police have found my Landy, not particularly smashed in or burnt out, but removed certain things, like spots and roll cage and wheel arches and some other stuff too I believe. Apparently it was found on 23rd May!!! It is now the 7th June and they've only just told me... Bloody Police ay

So it's a bit of a bummer because I am waiting to hear another offer from insurance. I want them to pay out as I'm not sure i want that Landy back because it is tainted and is not the same condition etc. I don't think they will though, because the last thing they want to do is pay out... What are your thoughts people? What should I do? What would you do in this situation?

Ok, so the barstewards stole my Landy and then very very slowly over a period of 3 weeks must have started to break it lol

I think the custom roll cage slowed them down...
The vehicle was 'barrelled' (said the man) and they have taken winch bumper, winch, a-bar, roll cage (front external, rear internal), roof rack, dog guard and rock slider sills. So basically all the 'bolt-on' metal

Oh and spot lamps and stuff inside it.

Anyone know anyone selling any of these 2nd hand? I hope not because then the insurance will have to payout for new replacements. I need to tot up a total of cost as an estimate so they can go look at it and confirm it to be an economical write-off.
