Took the landy back to the garage for the air con to be checked after it stopped working. Turns out, as suspected the condenser is totally shagged. Leaking from both ends and the fins are literally falling off at a touch! They originally quoted £320 supply and fit for a new one + regas. I was very happy indeed! Considering the cheapest i've found a condenser alone is £370!

All ready to fit and they found out its the wrong one :confused: as I thought... So car returned at no charge. Offered to fit the correct item but a whopping £700 so a no from me.

Bit the bullet and bought one from LRDirect (no winch for a while now! AC is far more important! :p ) shall fit it when it arrives. Garage was very nice though said they would regas for 50% off because of the hassle :) Nice people indeed :D

AC if you have it is a godsend in the WINTER, heater on full +AC on =instant clear windows, most people think its just for cooling, its an air CONDITIONER, it drys and dehumidifies the air passing through. Drys out your wet cloths and yr hair in the snow too!

Not sure if on the defender it blow cold air to windscreen vents, but if it does happy days.

Had AC for years until it was explained to me its not just for summer! been using it as such ever since no more steamy windows

Replaced the AC Condenser today, bit of a pain but overall pretty easy.

2 years on Allisport IC still looking good!

All fitted with new o rings, hopefully this time it will hold gas...

Also stripped the NAS step ready for the xmember replacement today. In a sorry state for sure

Crossmember is all done. Not bad, couple issues which where sorted quickly, so no complaints there. Welding could have been neater but hey its not a beauty pagent.

Now to wash the NAS step and touch it up with some FXLiner, run the wiring back for the reverse cam and parking sensors.

Then hopefully itll last.

Got the NAS Step back on today after a quick rub down and a touch up with FXLiner.

Looks much better

Reverse cam was a much tighter fit on this one though, tad odd.

Parking sensor arnt back in yet as two where damaged previously so ordered nee sensors which ill fit when they arrive.

Annoyingly my 12v fag socket (which also acts as the switched live for some of the dash items) has come loose again. I need a better method, was thinking of using some Blue Sea terminal blocks to connect everything in a much more stable way.

Space behind the dash is once again an issue but ive seen Kenwood do "short body" double din units now for a reasonable cost. At only 75mm deep they are perfect for a TD5! So going to have a look at one tomorrow.

So perhaps somewhat foolishly I decided to remove the rear floor pan, clean and prep for lizardskin.

I thought to my self. "Oh it was off less than 18 months ago, should be a doddle to remove....

Nope every screw - despite being replaced last time - was rotten and or seized.

Oh and to make things worse left my grinder at work! Que Argos £17.99 for a very poor grinder but did the job.

Why did I do this

Flithy as expected. Cleaned off with a jetwash, neat GUNK, brake cleaner and a wire wheel.

Getting there
20180819_120926.jpg

Clean now. Touched up the bare metal with CIO after a proper degrease.

Currently got two coats of LizardSkin on but it can take anywhere from 30mins to 3 hours to dry:eek:

Still need to get x2 coats of FXLiner on to protect it from road damage and refit it. All in time for work tomorrow o_O

In other news did get my new wrap around front diff guard on. As usual x2 coats of CIO followed by x2 coats of FXLiner.

Diff as a diddy weap but nothing too serious. Much better protection and much better looking :)

95% dry. Left it another 10 mins they gave it the first coat with 2K FXLiner.

You can see the damp patch around the middle.

*Just* about got a second coat from one can! That was lucky.

20 more minutes and I can begin refit. Should hopefully take an hour or so.

Glad I didnt try the fronts as well! Well out of time!

Now i know strip, clean and lizard skin Saturday. Let dry and refit Sunday.

I will do the front pans and seatbox but there lookse to be more than enough space to do it from below insitu.

About to finish up and this happens

Damn hinge snapped. I knew they where on their way out just wasnt sure when :(

Any suggestions on new ones? Before you say anything I dont want standard ones or "cheap" ones. I bought some from Paddocks for my 90 and they where barely better than the shagged ones! Not to mention the paint came off pretty quick.

That said Optimil are too pricey as are GORE.
