Best news of all is Safety Devices appear to have a fitting workshop in Suffolk! Supply and fit for around £1600, should find out for sure next week!:D:D

Hopefully the replacement lock nut for the tracm rods has arrived, so i can finish the bloody steering and get it tracked!
 
Well the bastard HD arms are finally on and what joy, while fitting I discovered the gaiter on the balljoint has failed. Not sure how long its been like it, though I havnt been through any water so it should last...

Honestly just couldnt be assed to drop the steering guard to pull it off today! Maybe next week...

Off to get the tracking done!
 
Kwikfit was too busy... Guess that will wait until tomorrow...

Test fitted the NAS rear step, looks good and secures all across the crossmember so any towing/recovery the weight is well spread.



However I did realise that it probably will not fit with the Masai tank guard on order! Luckily its on back order until 8th March, so I have time to check if it will or wont fit. If not I'll have to choose a different style which annoys me, as the Masai secures in such an easy way!

On top of that the Terrafirma rear recovery point (TF750) does NOT fit the NAS step! Evn though Flatdog where sure it would :mad::mad:

While the NAS step does reduce the departure angle quite a bit it is functional and useful. Plus I couldnt find another suitable method of rear recovery points... As I cant get to the rear of the crossmember to check for spreader plates without dropping the tank, the other tow hitch I have is worse than the NAS step.

Came with no information what so ever! Its the Terrafirma OEM style one.

A fair few of the others ive seen do not secure in the same way and I would not want to tow or recover from it. The OEM/TF ones bolt into each corner, the center crossmember, through the jacking points and bolted atthe back, 3 bolts through the bottom of the crossmember and two support brackets either side to the chasiss.

Looking at it, it secures in more places than my old tow hitch did.
 
Lots of goodies arrived in the post! The aquarium sand is black dry silica sand and £8 for 10kgs instead of £4 for a tiny pot. It's to be added to the Raptor for extra grip on certain bits like wing top chequer plate, rock sliders, rear step etc...

So naturally got cracking cleaning up the first bits I want to paint :confused:o_O

Started with the wire brush on the grinder to get the big **** off, then went at it with the belt sander and some 160 grit

On the degreasing side is it to be used 'neat'? or does it have to be diluted? Can't quite work it out
 
You mean the Upol stuff in the big can? Never used that, but I'd have thought definitely neat. Says anti-silicon on it, so is it any good for other stuff like grease? I tend to use brake cleaner, then detergent, rinsed with tap water and finally rinsed with distilled water. (Very handy having to have a dehumidifier in my container/workshop).
 
Love the progress with your motor! Would love a 110 double cab.

With regards to the degreaser, it is to be used straight out the tin. One rag to wipe on, one to wipe off before it evaporates ideally (mr.miyagi style!)

(I'm new around these parts, thought I'd offer the advice, im a painter by trade and use the stuff every day)

Going to let that all dry over night and start prepping some smaller plastic bots ready to raptor tomorrow/Sunday.

Long day!

YRM 8mm Ali tank guard fitted, painted the areas that come in contact with steel, avoid any corrosion.

Also found a standard Fender suspension turret, with some minor modification is a perfect trolley jack extension!

Prepped a few more bits as well, so far got the steering guard, various chequer plate, NAS step plate and the headlight surrounds all ready for Raptor tomorrow! :eek::D

Also got me tracking done, lovely chaps at Kwikfit gave me a "Defender Discount" as itll never be perfect, half off cant complain.

Only concern is ive got a notch when i turn right, just before the notch the steering feels much lighter. Quite odd, not sure what it is???. Got new track rods/balljoints.

Raptor is a go!!



Supprisingly easy and simple to do, just waiting for it to dry for a second coat.

Just under one bottle did the above + the back of the steering guard and some tests so overall pretty decent.

Used a mix of 50psi at the tank 40psi at the gun for some parts and 60psi at the tank and 50psi for other parts. Higher psi gives a slightly smoother texture.
 
Not sure what I like the best here, the great write-up or your garage!

Every Landy owner should have a garage like that, should be written into British Common Law, or English Law at least.

The Queen could make it her Sapphire Anniversary gift to the nation... Then again we could all do the lottery instead. Good show, nevertheless.
