hi mate

managed to find a video where I mention about putting copperslip on the pad ends , in the Video he’s doing the rear brakes , but shows in the first 8-9 seconds him applying it

also thought this video may come in hamd6 for the rears

hope this also helps u

ps, this couple are currently restoring a D3 from the frame up

Cheers Gary 👍🙏

Cheers. So much to learn.
Thanks again

hi @lynall
Cheers. Why too much agro on the rears?
Need angle grinder and access to use it, cannot remember if I had to take caliper and carrier off.
I would suggest as the rears are not making any noise/causing any trouble I would leave them be.

To be honest mate they are noisy as well. Just left side front and rear 👍

does the noise only happen when u apply the brakes plse , also does the EPB also make a noise when applying it

get a large hacksaw blade put it between the shield and disc to ensure nothing is there or shield is touching the disc

if that all checks out the brakes might just need taking apart, cleaning , ensuring the slider pins are free and applying suitable grease

if the EPB shoes have to come off ensure to put copperslip on the shoes where they touch the back plates

Indeed all depends when the noise happens , plus do u get a noise when going round corners or only happens when ur going straight plse , thks

ur very welcome and indeed ur be surprised of how much knowledge ur start to pick up
Looks like you are going to be busy!
The joys of old complicated cars.
😂
It’s already cost me the same as I paid for it.
I think it was a bit of a lemon. Endless things.
Lots of sensor issues /limp modes
Injector issues.
Then to cap it all the high pressure fuel valve.
So bought it for £5k 120000 miles
Spent about 5K on it. 258000 miles now.
I love her.

Nope. Noise occurs on forward and reverse.
I hammered the plates with a cold chisel to maybe bend them away a bit but no good.

But think of the labour charges you’re saving. 👍🙂
Even if I can service my car and just pay for jobs that are beyond me she is solid. So should go in for ages.
And I can’t afford to buy another.

really like the colour and indeed think when someone comes along who want them just right u start to find all the previous bodges etc and takes age just to resolve them

luckily they weren’t fitted with side steps as they can become water traps causing rust on the sills

will be doing my brakes all round next month and been looking at the kit in the other post , at least the brakes will have then been totally replaced , including all the hoses , drop links front to back , already rebuilt the entire suspension and cabin airbags

many thks , daft question but u don’t have side steps fitted do u as they can rattle if they’ve become slight loose or rub against the sills

ref the brakes , get rid of the front plates and see if it makes any difference

also diagnostics , what one do u use plse , thks

I DO have side steps. I’ll check. But pretty sure it’s not them.but no question with me is daft. Promise you.

👍 re the front plates.

I have one of these. Amazon product

Admittedly do have a local sole trader mechanic who does the servicing for me and might get him to do these for me , alas I’ve got a screwed up back so it’s the removal of the tyres that would kill me

likewise with regards to replacement , the ULEZ if it comes into force will be 1 x mile up the road , trouble is my parents , hospital , shops and walking places for my dog are all within it and seriously can’t start shelling out £12.50 each time I go within the zone

plus because I’m just outside it there’s no chance of getting a scrap payment , which in reality would be criminal to get it crushed and then there no way I could afford a euro 6 discovery where many are going for 35k +

see that diesel D3 that are in the proposed ULEZ zone dropping in price like a stone

sorry I’m waffling again, lol

Many thks and indeed they can rattle ever so slightly to cause a noise , maybe get someone to drive it for u whilst u listen with the window down

or could always unbolt the near side step to see if it makes any difference , would just hate for u to mess around with the brakes if it’s not that

awesome ref the code reader as there great for the money and very useful

Nightmare on the back and ULEZ.
I was caught by Bristol ULEZ. I only caught the edge of it and didn’t realise. I complained and they let me off. 😂

Indeed , that was a result getting let off , think the ULEZ fine is £180

Yep. I was amazed. I didn’t get the first letter because of the postal strike. It was really delayed. By the time I got it it had already doubled. Then it took another three weeks to sort it.
I didn’t shout. I was calm. Calm and polite wins the day. If it doesn’t then you shout! 😂

Remove caliper and slides clean slides grease slides refit slides job done.
If piston tight pop a pad out and pump pedal so piston comes out 1/4 inch or so, then using a stringe with a fine needle inject a little brake fluid through piston boot, push piston in and out a few times(not to far out) pad back in then give it a whirl.
The cheapest of the cheap rear calipers are actually okay.
