Most of you have seen my challenge truck build thread and to be honest I can't believe how many views its got but there's alot of stuff that I do that doesn't fit into that thread.

I work for my dads agricultural engineering business and so through my job as a mechanic I see alot of things and work on alot of things that most don't see, I'm not here to promote our business as ill be given pages of anti spam ;) plus most of you arn't involved in agriculture anyway so it doesn't apply ;) but I do work on alot of landrovers and so can pass on the more complex jobs and interesting things that the usual landrover owner doesn't see :) aswell as some of the other different things we do :)

Anyway to start here's what arrived today ...

This is a massive generator that is to be stripped down, put into a container and shipped to Bangladesh :p

And here's the generator part, powered by a massive rolls Royce v8 diesel :p

There was quite a knocking from the rear and you can see why when you compare old and new :)

And new ones fitted

You definitely don't want to round/shear these bolts as there is absolutely no room to get a drill/welder in so you just have to be careful and tighten-undo and repeat if the bolts get tight and use plenty of WD40, and plenty of copper grease on replacement.

Not a particularly hard job but does take some care :)

Then when bringing the range rover in there was a clunk and complete loss of drive, gearbox decided it didn't want to live anymore :(

So just under 2 hours later

Won't the wd40 water down the copper slip only need for the one;)

WD to remove the bolts and clean everything then wipe down and put everything back together with copper slip ;) should have been more clear

Ah I see there is better stuff out there than wd40 for penetrating stiff bolts , you need to try some honestly your be amazed :)

I hear Plusgas is good, but never tried it. Any others to try? I'm starting a SIII strip down, so now's the time!

That stuff is good , anything that is labeled as penetrating fluid .
Not multi purpose as wd ;) ps with what your doing oxi might help

We have some aerosol stuff that freezes seized fixings (-30c)which breaks the rust up then we use penetrating lube works well. Sorry I can't remember what it's called, don't use it much at a main stealers.

Plusgas is bloody amazing stuff! Well worth the money imho.
Word of warning though if ya get it on ya hands wash it off straight away cos it irritates your skin like buggery! I found that out the hard way.

WD40 was not designed as a penetrating fluid, just as a water dispersant. Hence the name WD. Plusgas is designed to penetrate, and is good if given time to work.
