Yeah they were fairly fine, I know bugger all about auto boxes so stripping this down will be intreaguing
You know, looking at those pics of a new Defender, it makes me think Landrover/tata really will be making an awful cock-up if they go away from this iconic shape. OK, it'll never sell big in America (their biggest market apparently for 'other' vehicles) but her and in many other countries it's just so 'right'.
OK, it can be tidied up, but to me the only way to make it better might be to stregthen stuff they already have .. like the swivel area, make that into a simpler, 'proper' king-pin type arrangement rather than the swivel balls and seals maybe, or make them come as standard with diff locks, or options to fit, at the factory. Make things like CDL linkages 'proper' engineered linkages, or even cohesive structures and engineered assemblies, not just bits of bent wire like they are now! Offer the upgrades as options or upgrade paths for older Defenders/Discos. Would it be so hard to make the oil filter, and sedimenter for instance, easily changeable?
If they concentrated on actually improving parts and sub-assemblies rather than pandering to market tastes and fashion I reckon they'd be in a far stronger place.
I'd agree with that. The defender still has that rugged style which is understated, and still classic. Not to mention the ability to be repaired in the arse end of nowhere with a hammer and some gaffer tape.
The problem is that they are too driven by the marketing people who think everything needs to look "cool", and by bureaucrats who think that it needs to comply with even more red tape. They make more than enough options for someone who wants a shiny shiny to take the kids to school. How about keeping this one for the purists, and for those who buy them as a workhorse, not a showpiece.
And here's the generator part, powered by a massive rolls Royce v8 diesel
That wouldn't be a Rolls Royce Eagle engine would it?
That stuff is good , anything that is labeled as penetrating fluid .
Not multi purpose as wd ps with what your doing oxi might help
Plusgas is bloody amazing stuff! Well worth the money imho.
Word of warning though if ya get it on ya hands wash it off straight away cos it irritates your skin like buggery! I found that out the hard way.
3 in 1 penetrating fluid and plus gas both leave wd in the shade.
Reading up on the new rangerover sport I am hoping that landrover keep the 3 two system that is currently avalable, the high class luxury stuff, range rover, range rover sport and evoque, the middle ground, Disco 4 and freelander, and utilitarian the defender, each with it's own level of technology and luxury, then each market is happy you have your big wigs with there leathe and advanced electronics, the middle ground all rounders and the workhorses each having there place
Just finished work after fixing another dealers **** workmanship, somehow the guy who spent 2 days servicing this machine had failed to notice that not only had the main bearing worn out but it had also worn the bearing completely away aswell as the bearing housing and had worn the shaft 2 inches into the surrounding frame ... And to top it off had chopped 6 inches out of the chain to get rid of the slack produced by this wearing.
Absolute tool ! Haha and the chain was knackered anyway so we replaced that too, god knows why farmers keep going back to these idiots I don't know when me and dad worked 4 hours overtime so he can carry on work in the morning haha anyway least I get overtime pay haha
Hmm. And what's in that sandwich hiding behind it?
