do prefer autos myself. they just put the power down predictably off road. and you never find yourself in the wrong gear going uphill.

im not sure you understand how torque and wheel slip are connected
You can't bump start an auto if you get a sticky starter or low battery. Your not supposed to tow an auto. And you get through more brake pads
I have manual discovery 2 and I would only recommend a manual if the owner has spent his whole life body building, the clutch is so heavy that if you drive in heavy traffic your left leg will feel dead when you get out.Its fine on motorways or in the country but if you are going to drive in heavy traffic forget it and go for a auto.
I do, always have done unless driving in snow on a hill which is very rare nowdays, one of my other cars has a position to enable me to use the steering wheel paddles which I tried just the once or twice, don't see the point that of selecting manual gear unless on a track.
So this morning i went and checked a 97 300tdi auto out all seemed good for the price rust in the normal places but not to bad drives fine so i bought it.
Just need some time to give it a closer inspection then the project can begin.
Took it to a lake/pit local to me an got it muddy all seems good.
All fluids and filters are on the first todo list, wot involved with raising fill stick? Or will this become obvious once i get under it.
New to landys so get ready for stupid questions feel free take the **** of my poor knowledge.

There's plenty of occasions when going up hill it's better to knock it back into third rather than allow the box to change up into top or use the kick down.
There's no inhibitor between 4th and 3rd for this very reason.
