auto or manual diesel p38?

I have a manual.

I have done 000's of miles towing heavy trailers, e.g. I recently towed a mini digger back from the UK to France (about 2.2 tonnes total).

The manual box option is fine. I have fitted a PSI power box to mine and it helps a lot with the throttle response, but you still need to keep 2K+ on the tacho.

I can certainly believe the auto is a more refined drive, perhaps more in keeping with what the RR is about, but the manual really is fine once you get used to it, and you can put the PSI box on without worrying about gearbox failure.

MPG seems little different between the two based on what I have read on here, so I don't think mpg is a factor in deciding between the two.

HTH

ps I have never thought that my car has a heavy clutch, much like any other manual car really..... and yes I have spent time in 3 hour traffic jams before now (good old périphérique...)

Well there is another thing, the manual needs new clutch and a f**king dual mass flywheel at some point. It can get expensive (1000+ € just for the parts). Don't ask me how i know.

If i was buying again, i'd probably buy an auto. You get used to manual's lack of power when starting from standstill, but it is really inconvenient to have to drag your clutch every day just to get moving. Clutch pedal on mine is soft enough, certainly softer than my Citroen C25 4x4 van ;)

I prefer the auto for pulling stuff, but the manuel is better to drive than the auto you have gears and every time you go around corners unlike the auto you drive around , the auto always feels like your coasting unlike the manuel .. Take your foot off its slows the auto you have to hit the brakes ! Auto's from a full tank 430 miles manuel 470-90

Never thought of using the gear lever on the auto then? Full engine breaking down to about 20 mph:) auto box is cheaper to replace than the DMF/clutch on the manual.

No data I never use the stick like that I have but I don't like it I guess I remember the old auto box's that wernt so forgiving and I see it as more wear and tear in the very expensive cable .
