Another P38 (EAS ISSUES)

Bit of a swerve, but talking of "Queen{s}", I saw Elton John at BelleVue, Manchester, in the early 1970's.
It was the time of high levels of IRA activity and, half an hour into the gig, the announcement came to slowly evacuate,
after they received a bomb warning using the correct IRA bomb code.

He was good to his word. Bernie Taupin was the star of the show for me though...I never knew there were so many
percussion instruments and he played every one of them. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
 
You managed more than me, i was to young for the older ones but made it to the Works and Magic ones and the tribute, and a couple of small solo ones from roger and brian, and the Paul Rogers one:)

To get back to the OP
I reckon his exhaust has melted line to tank and pump has got knackered trying to feed leak
RSW software is the best I agree but wont tell you where the hole is
Best to put a real compressor on line to tank and listen
Once that is fixed can use diag to get it set up
 
So after some more swearing and plug cleaning and swapping to the compressor that was on my sprung one I have got it to lift and cycle through all of the hieghts , the rear airbags are in a pretty bad state and very perished, so will renew them and rebuild one of my compressors so it's actually decent , does seem a bit wonky so when my cable and software arrives I will put loads of new bits on and recalibrate it and hopefully have a fully functional P38! (Fingers crossed):cool:

If the rear airbags are bad, the fronts will also need doing unless they have already been done. Always best to change all 4.

I would say that they have been done recently as there is no sign of perishing on the fronts at all where as the backs are absolutely hanging and certainly wouldn't want to put any weight on the tow bar that's for sure
 
So I got to the compressor rebuilt and all back in , got to take it for a drive last night and found a few more issues ( it is a land rover product after all);) for some reason when I turn the ignition on it says catalyst overheat see manual , don't see how it thinks that as the diesels don't have any sensors for the cat ? And I'm also assuming that the gearbox selector pin is bent as the gear pattern is lopsided to the passenger side and a bit diagonal? o_O
The gearbox is smooth tho no funny noises or crunches , and general driving it puts my springy one to shame , it actually pulls like a inline 6 should whereas my other one is like it's got a Lister in it ( I reckon some of the newness may have fell out of it ) but was previously neglected and got 223000 on the clock

This is a manual diesel?

The selector pin was originally brass, I think. They did do a stronger replacement in steel. I think @brianp38dse did his. The detent springs also tend to go and then it gets a bit funny. @jamesmartin might know where to get replacements. The selector box is, of course, a complete PITA to access.

Yer it is a manual diesel one I am half aware that they can be bit of a pain to remove the selector box , but would be nice to have it right :D

If you have a Nanocom, check the BECM settings, the catalyst overheat may mean it thinks it's a V8:eek:

I don't have nanocom ,will invest in one at some point currently only have my snapon scanner hence the EAS bits being sorted with you :cool:
 
There used to be new selector pins on Ebay in brass or steel but not seen any for awhile, when I had my box out for the roll pins I tightened mine abit as it was abit loose and that made a difference, there is also the two se gearstick centralizing ball and springs that stop working due to the springs rusting up, again not seen any for sale, I repared mine.

Will have to have a look around and see what I can find , might see if I can get my fingers on a remote unit and overhaul it then just do a swap and have a spare one to do the same with
