The cables rust like most things Land Rover, a new cable should stand your weight.

I have done over 90k on lpg and exchanged engines twice first blown flex plate took out all sorts when I stripped it down heads were in good shape second was overheat due to split rad due to crack in liner no slip none of us are sure what went on there heads were twisted but valve seats all good. On all set ups I have smooth running at all times on lpg and rough running on petrol at idle so it is petrol delivery injector etc that is the problem mpg is at just 3000 rpm 15.8 mpg on a run 12.5 around town all have been more or less the same.
