Shocking you were gaining a distinct advantage running without a tailgate  must have rduced your drag coefficient significantly :D

And as for the mismatched truckcab, blue !!

Thats a cracking bit of land from the vid, definately going to get the 80" out.

Looks l could even trial under the YLROC colours. Now the Mrs has had a go at a TYRO she wants to drive an RTV too. Not sure if they would let me navigate for her first trial and let me drive too.

Ha, just seem the kiddies Land Rover at the end of the vid, cool.

I'm sure our club would allow you to double drive together would have to ask on the day but I'd have no probs with it. Then again the guys that do the joint RTV's with our club are quite competitive but play on the its getting your wife more into it then they should be ok.

They do JTV trials on a mini tractor with a rollcage fitted for the younguns too young to drive in tyro. My neice had a go great for the younguns and probably more competitive that any of the other events more between the parents more than the kids like the bike trial at the nationals!!

Hi guys, I keep doing bits to the motor but it still looks the same so not much to report, I have been finishing of lots of little bits and pieces that I left unfinished hence the gap in posting.
I have just made and tacked in place the last gearbox mounting and the bracket for the engine tie rod the rod is made from an L322 rear toe adjuster plus the top of the bulkhead is done.
An ALRC scrutineer has said I should make a steel panel to go between the rear shock mountings and the seats so that is also done. I can actually see the end of the welding not to far off :)

Hi Guys, i have been finishing off a lot of bits and pieces that I left along the way so not much to report. but it has been a while so just a quick update to let you know I am still here.
I removed the steel frame from the bonnet and re riveted it, then made up some hinges and welded them on. i have made up some door pillars to tidy that area up and have made up mounting brackets for the hand brake calipers that I have acquired.
The ALRC have changed the rules regarding handbrake's so now it has to be an independent system where as before you could put a master cyl in the line to the rear.
Just means more work and four calipers on the back axle.

Well my grinder has just packed in (brushes worn out) so my plans for today are scuppered.
I went up to Eckington last weekend and sat in with a buddy of mine on the night comp and he was flying (first overall) which has motivated me somewhat.

I have got several sheets of aluminum is stock and booked a week of work, though couldn't get time of till the end of Sept.

I also have a set of throttle ITB's so can get on with making the inlet manifolds and fuel system, I can just about see a light at the end of a very long tunnel.

Thing of mechanical beauty :)

Thanks, I'm pleased with how it's looking. I can't decide what colour I will paint the body though, I am thinking white with a green RS type stripe at the mo but I also like red or perhaps traditional sage green with limestone roof.

I will have to get sorted on the PAS pipes and pop over and get them made up, I just need to finalise where a few things need to go first.

did you make the bonnet from scratch ? Cant remember if you did or you bought it…..I'm fancying making a slightly longer one for mine given that I'm losing 3" off the front end so it'd make everything look a lot more in scale that way

No it is an 88" bonnet, I removed the steel frame and fitted a new set of rivets.

I always work on the theory if it looks good it probably is so yours should be pretty damn good :)

I like the white with RS green idea but I'd probably go for green sills and small parts rather than a stripe but that's just preference :)

No worries we've got 1/4 - 3/4 pipe in stock and I'm guessing it will be BSP as most landy stuff is :)

stripes like this it makes 88's look longer, though a plain colour is easier to repair and the way I drive that happens alot:rolly:

Looks like you have put time and money into your disco:rolleyes: and yes I could do with more time, money and space.

I doubt as much as most! I did everything as cheap as possible creating from sheet for example, rather than buying.

I'de love to do another build from the ground up like yours, with all the knowledge and skill I have learned as I had barely done anything even close before just tinkering with mountain bikes and simple service/repairs!

I could tell you now, If I were to mention to the Mrs about doing another she would lynch! me

Believe it or not I do things as cheap as I can too. I taught myself brick laying and built the workshop, I did work on a mixer drivers Cossie to get a cheap load of concrete, I fetched stone from a local quarry (£7 a ton) with a Land Rover and Trailer. It took me a couple of years to build and I couldn't afford it when I started but it is just a matter of time and pressure.

Same with the motor build, know what you want but then don't look at the whole job or you will never start just build the first bit and and then the next and so on.

I had many years mounting biking. Intense, Orange and Marin stuff and I did the same with them, built them a bit at a time. Did you ever do the Beast at Coed, every time I did it it p1ssed it down and that cake shop near the end was a life saver:5bsvengo:

I'de also love to learn brick laying, my old man build the double garage in the house I was brought up in. He taught himself.

I build myself a few bikes, had a trials Azonic DS1 mk2 with magura's ect.. and an Jump bike Azonic Evolution hope m4's/xc hubs on Shimano d321 rims Marzocchi forks. Sounds like you where into downhill/duel or even XC? I only really went to my local place, Woburn and Chick sands a couple times, never went to Coed. (I did like my Azonic :D)

Yup Downhilly stuff/trail riding, I just like going fast through trees and off jumps. Always liked the hardtail jump bikes but never did have one, My Orange was a hard tail but more set up for trails.
I'm too old now to take the hard knocks so going back to comp safari :D

I always intended to get an Intense M1.. Top frames them! Just never had the cash available at one time.
I really loved my Azonic evo, great bike, super strong and not to heavy, did everything I asked it to without any issues. It got stolen a couple years ago, which ended my time with bikes!
