Bloody toe rags, I built the Mrs a Stump jumper out of spares I had and one weekend she won £400 on the Lotto so shot round the PO to collect on the Stumpy, came out the shop £400 notes in hand and the bike had gone. one minute up the next back down:mad:

I kept my bike in the house and never let it out of my sight when out.
 
OOh I have just been in the workshop messing with these little beauties. I also have a single plenum system that I am working on but I think i will have to try these first.

 
It's surprisingly roomy, With the bent door bars it is wider that a defender and last weekend I made up a foot box in the passenger side. I can sit in with my legs straight out and I am 6' 2", I think I am going to shorten the leg room as when the going gets rough you need to brace yourself against the bulkhead.

The apex of the bend in the door bar is just where your elbow is, a Defender body is the same width at the body capping as a S1 hence why the hard tops can be swapped, so It isn't much wider but it makes a big difference and of course safer with the bars in.
 
I must admit a mid engine buggy (or almost) idea is very attractive, but I was always put off by the thought of being a sardine, but as it seems its not the case! is looking at the pics that lump seems a similar width to a rover v8, is it?
 
Yes they are both 90 deg v's. As I remember there is about 15" width for my legs which is good because I can rest one against the door bar and one against the center cowl (both will be padded) some comps are brutal, you need to be well wedged and strapped in tight and have something to hold onto, the navigator needs a "Holysh1t" handle. your not going on a long journey just 5 - 10 mins of shaking, bumps, jumps and crash landings.

The cage in the pic above is just a bad cage, ALRC spec cages are plenty good enough, which is what my cage is with a few extras like the door bars (once hit my elbow on a tree at high speed) and the brace in the front hoop which helps support the engine and adds stiffness. It's also getting checker plate foot wells (I hate checker plate) to protect from intrusions.
Obviously it is a comp motor and motor sport can hurt just think what you are comfortable with.

Cheers my next build will be a spaceframe build but not sure if 88 or 100 inch or bigger even :)
 
Wouldn't consider anything other than an msa legal cage as worthy o the title of roll cage anything else is just unwanted weight and scrap iron

We all know you might be able to fool the scruteneer you can't fool the air ambulance
