hello
i have a 1996 p38 4.6 now heres the problem.
We got the car with 2 key fobs 1 worked and 1 didnt the other day after shopping with the wife the car would'nt unlock by the key fob so i used the key in the door which set the car into lock down.
Thinking it was the battries in the fob i sent the wife off to get them replaced.
she came with the fob bust the bloke in the local car shop user to much force and messed up the borad inside.
So we had to use key 2 which we have never used before i replaced the battries and now the fob works well the light flashes.
we also tryed using the unlock code using the door but didnt work aswell.
So we contact landrover who sent me a new code which did work.
so i moved the car out of the surpermarket car park and park it up and turn off the engine tryed to start the car again all was when untill i locked the car using the key in the door now the dam thing is locked down again with the screen saying engine disabled and i cant get key 2 to sinc with the car.
I have contacted land rover again and they say the eka should work again but when i enter the code using the door lock the green lights on the dash dont flash
sorry its abit long winded but i think the full story was needed in this case.
is there any way now to get the car started because its 2 days before xmas and we have all the shopping to get and the wife is giving me hell.

If the man in the car accessory shop broke your key then he is liable for it's replacement or repair (have you seen the cost and availability of these things??!!). He probably forced in 2032 batteries instead of the slightly thinner 2025 ones.

Thanks for the reply's guys
Some good news at last ive got me bade running and home again tonight.
over the last few days ive been reading alot of forums to do with range rovers.
One thing that seem to cause a problem with putting in the eka code was the door lock itself.
so armed with a can of WD40 the lock recived a good few blast of the stuff and a few good wiggles of the key in the lock and the sidelight indicator light on the dash started to flash again so with a quick enter on the code the old girl sprang into life (ooh the sound of a v8) just call me sad lol.

just one problem to over come now is the resync of key 2 any clues anyone lol

As said already, PM Irishrover.....he don't know, nobody does!

BTW, he's over here at the mo.....(update ur profile to show where you are!! ) dependant as to where you are you even get a "personal hand" lol!

ok thanks i will do my profile but to save time im in the south of the uk in wiltshire

Always helps if peeps know where we are........never know who just might be close!

Send Irish a PM if not done already - he's Midlands to south coast and back at some point whilst here......might even get a vist then!

Three ways of re-synching a key. 1996 models should be by locking the car by turning the key in the handle take the key ouit then pressing the lock button within a few seconds.

If that doesn't work then it's key in, turn to lock and hold, press lock button, turn to unlock, press unlock button and repeat four times (no, not a wind up!). The newer ones (98 on??) you simply put the key in the ignition and you'll see the led flash once and that's it.
