Guys,
After 12 months & 13,000 trouble free miles of driving, the wife went to start the RR this morning. We don't have a fob only the standard key. When she went to unlock the drivers door, the alarm went off. It stopped after a minute or so but the indicators didn't flash when unlocking like they usually do. The red led on the dash is flashing the whole time. Also when unlocking only the drivers door is opening. Temp dropped to -2 last night. Had to slum it & take her 06 zafira to work instead :). Any ideas as to what's gone wrong???

Low temperatures will flatten/drain an already weak battery very quickly, that will have caused or at least been part of the issue.
How are/were you running without a fob- presumably alarm disabled in BECM?

Cheers Data, new fob was ordered this morning. In the meantime any ideas mate how I can back on the road

Try putting the EKA code in (via the driver door lock) if the other doors are staying locked it sounds like its double locked its self as part of the alarm... if you try and start her does she say engine imobilised etc on the dash screen??

Just using the spare key (no fob). Locked, unlocked, started no problem since I got the jeep in Jan 2010. Alarm activated & deactivated this way so had no problems

Yeah Mike, comes up on the display engine immobilised. Have been on to my mechanic who works for the local landy dealer. Have supplied him with the chassis no as I don't have the EKA. He's also order the new fob for me.

Anyone got recommendations for a decent battery as I might as well change that now as well.

My fob busted a couple of month ago and ive not got round to sending it for repair as i only have the 1 key... so i just use the key like you... but twice now its done what your has done but without the alarm (think it was disconnected befor i got the rangie) the immob still works tho but sometimes i have to put the EKA code in.

Ring your local Landie dealer for the EKA code its free... if you have no joy ring my local dealer in Bury lancashire, (ROCKSIDE LANDROVR they are mege helpfull and explained how to put the code in... then i found it in my hand book.:D

Get the biggest battery you can that will fit; good advice even if your's is petrol, Fit a diesel spec battery, more powerful, still fits, therefore less prone to drain.

FFS, went to start it this evening at work & it barely started. I know the cold weather can adversely affect batteries so I'm assuming the battery is on the way out.

the manual says a 107 amp for t diesel, i put in a 110 amp varta, only use a top quality battery, i d recommend a bosch varta or yuasa its all we can get here on t west coast

You can get a really good 1000CCA Yausa battery for Allparts or the like (dont buy from Halfrauds) for about £100 mine is awesome and will jump start pretty much anything!

Best to go as big as possible so will take longer to drain!!

If you keep getting flat battery, look at disconnecting your keyfob receiver (especially if you dont use the fob at the moment!) You will find that it should hold out for longer in the cold weather!
