60 yards kills are easily possible with a sub 12fpe gun, but unless you're supremely confident, and it's a completely still day, then 35 yards is probably the general limit for hunting.

prometheus pellets are alright, but you're better off with lead :)

I've got a tx200 right now. just stripped the stock and re-oiled it and had the metal re-blued :)

thank you ;)

domes or points?

only springer i have left is the Scorpion (just for plinking)

i heard somewhere that it only takes a pellet travelling at 3ft-p on contact to kill a bunny..

is this correct?

that's true. a pellet dropping to only 3fpe of energy though is losing height really quickly, so if you don't judge the distance extremely accurately, then you end up with a miss, or a wounded bunny, which is not nice..

thank you ;)

it depends really. domes are probably better for bunnies, as the points could easily over-penetrate, not transferring all of the energy in to the target. I'd got with points for pigeons :) points aren't good for shooting paper, as you can't see the holes well, although air arms hunter are ok in paper, they're in-between domes and points :) flat heads cut out nice like round holes which are great for target shooting on paper!

ahhh

i just used to buy mixed pellets and shove owt into the rifle when i was a kid, never gave it a second thought.

bought the prometheus cos they were the rage at the time but still didn't notice much difference tbh

well apart from they were more expensive

i have a tin of domes and a tin of flatties somewhere for the pistol

And kill em clean? With prometheus pellets, I rather think not.:rolleyes:

you don't know man............you weren't there :p

True, very true but I've always made a rule of no further than 35 yards with sub 12.
Having said that my 22 LR is zeroed at 80 yards using subs but my best shot to date was a bunny at 124 yards, dropped it stone dead. Gave it about 2" hold over and down it went. :D

The very best springers are 'break barrel' I have a Brummy Webley Tomahawk in .22, not for sale though, also a Webley Tracker (not break barrel but a bloody good airgun) and I have several other Webley's including a Longbow and a few BSA break barrel's. ;)

hell break barrels are upto 1200fps in .177 and 1000fps in.22:D

but in you are using flats for target and sighting in , and another for hunting point of impact will be different

of course yes, but you should be firing a good few tins of pellets at targets before you start shooting live quarry, and flat-heads are good for things like rats and sqizzers!

I got a weihrauch HW35 struggling to get 8lbsft out of it apparently the cylinders suffer from pourous braze will check another day as cba to strip it again!!

Some pics:

I'd stick with well known brands and whatever you get ask for a chrono before handing over cash or factor in the cost of a service rebuild. The second pic shows a really poor pic of the light its way better than that i think for some reason I couldn't hold the Iphone in the right place to get a full view.
