Didn't do a lot today. Bits didn't turn up till late, And it still wasn't everything.

So this mornings job was sort the alternator out.

So as i mentioned yesterday the pulley sits further forward than the others, So to make it sit further back I cut the raised bit off the alternator.

Problem then is, That once the pulley is tightened up you can't turn it.
So i cut this of the transit alternator pulley, Which now acts as a spacer.

Then um'ed and ah'ed about which rad to fit.
Decided the 200tdi rad would be to small
Tried fitting the td5 rad but it sits too high due to the chassis mounts, Which I didn't want to cut off.
So I've put the full width TD rad in, And I'll have to drill a hole in the side of the wings for the intercooler pipework.

The plan for the top hose, All needs joining together and cutting to the right length to make it bob on.

Not been doing a lot the last couple of days, There's a lot of waiting for parts to be honest, So I'll buy one thing, Fit that and plan the next bit so I can order more bits, So before you know it you're a month down the line and haven't done anything :(

Few more bits came yesterday :p
Really need to calm the spending a bit, Spent about £600 in the last 2 weeks and still got quite a few bits to buy.

The compression fittings are for the power steering which needs a prv tee'ing into the system.
Which should be here tomorrow, Was a slight delay, As the item I ordered wasn't in stock.
Fair play to the company though, They was straight on the phone to tell me and offer me a replacement.
Unlike most ebayers who just refund you and say nothing :mad:

Other than that, It's just been little bits, Fitted the fuel pipes, Vac pipe.
Modified the oil filler so it doesn't touch the chassis. (will eventually get one with it in the rocker cover)
fitted series 3 109 brake master for the clutch.
Painted compressor pipes, But now need to order some 16mm id hose to get it to the rear tub.
And no pics for a while as the dog chewed the camera cable.
 
Is that right? PRV to the line between reservoir and pump not the return line to the reservoir? Not saying it's wrong just seems odd to me.

I don't think it matters, the only line that's under pressure is the one from the pump to the box right? So where it returns to doesn't matter

It did have me thinking at first, But the drawing is off the guy who did the 110 6bt a few posts back and he hasn't had any problems.

Obviously one side has got to go before it gets to the steering box, Or it'll blow the seals.

I'm no hydraulics expert so whether it'd be better for the other side of the PRV to go in to the tank return. I don't know

Hopefully it'll work.

Your current PRV position will pressurise the in pipe for the pump but I doubt that'll make a difference on something like that.

Putting it into the reservoir would dissipate some of the pressure but it'll be negligible
 
I know it's not usually an issue with early diesel engines in general but what is the wiring like for this? Is it as basic as swapping a 19j for a 200tdi in the sense that the principles are the same? I'm certainly no expert I'm just wondering out loud

Yep, Pretty simple as far as I can tell, Mechanical pump so no ecu etc.
Temp and oil sender might not work off the 6bt ones so they might need changing but that's not a big worry. It's just a big tdi really :D

Sounds good! Electrics baffle me, so its good that it's simple!
 
Keeping up with your posts mate, just haven't had anything to usefully contribute recently :eek:

Anyway, been reading all the sections of the paint tutorial and got to wondering how you filter the air supply from your compressor.

Yeah, I probably do :eek: Just write what I'm thinking at the time.
Maybe I'm to hard on myself :confused: I just know things can be done quicker but doesn't happen.

Hmm, Kind of wish I'd fitted this engine from day one.
None of that then as theirs loads to go at whether you're waiting for bits or not.
 
Got a new camera cable and it was the wrong one :rolleyes:
So thought f*ck it I'll just twist the wires together for now :D Well it does the job :p

Anyway a few bits from the last couple of days.

New series 3 109 brake master cylinder for the clutch.

Bought a nice small reservoir to suit.

Removed clutch pedal, Fitted new master and refitted.

Tee pieces tapped into the lr pipes for the prv.
Which I'm waiting for, When it gets here, I'll mount it and I can measure up for the pipes.

Fuel hoses on the 6bt are bigger than the lr ones.
Now originally I wanted to buy new connectors with the right size barbs on.
But I haven't a clue what size the thread is.
So I've used barbed reducers. They're a very tight fit so hopefully no leaks.

Cut the intercooler pipes down.
Now I've kind of guessed where they want cutting as I haven't got an intercooler or pipework yet.
But should be near enough.

Cut the original air pipe down, So now it faces upwards.
Just wants a 4" 90 degree bend on it. Then I can direct it wherever the air box is. (when I decide)

Td5 central crossmember to replace the round one that's currently on.
Why? Because the gearbox will hit the round one as it sits to high.

I am building myself up to giving it a go. Too scared to use 2K though, so it will have to be cellulose. What do you think? I've heard cellulose paint is much better these days.
