So pulled the 90 out of the garage this morning to find this.
Looks like its coming out of the back of the hub. Was all down the tyre.
Smells like diff oil to me.
So what do we think? Rear hub seal.

Next on the list was the wings. Something I was dreading was the wiring, I expected it to be a birds nest of crimps and added in wiring. And to my surprise I was actually very tidy :)
Any way one wing of.

And the other :D

After that I got the seat box out and started unbolting the tub.

Slow progress but progress non the less :)

Need to start selling a few bits. I've already got rammel everywhere

Oh my god those wires terrify me!!!

If you're going thorough all the trouble of fitting a TD5 bulkhead make sure that you fit the TD5 instrument cluster, 10x better than the TDI unit. :)

They terrify me too
Ill be fitting a td5 instrument cluster, Just don't know weather to fit a full face lift td5 dash. They do silly money though :(

I'm not a massive fan of the TD5 face lift, instead on my last 300tdi I simply striped the dash and painted the gray back panel black - it made an enormous difference visually.

Stupidly envious of you fitting a TD5 tub, I've wanted one for ages!!

I prefer them visually, But I refuse to pay £250+ for a dash. I rather fit a mud or raptor dash.

I'm hopping to fit the best panels I can, So td5 tdci if I can pick them up for reasonable money. Not going to hold my breath though.

How would you fit a TDCI.?! Is that doable, I would've thought the gearbox is a little way too forward.?!

To me the TD5 just looks like a large peice of plastic has been plonked on the front of the dash. Lol :)

I wasn't on about the dash, Just the rest of the panels in general :)

So another small update :)
Well my first job this morning was to change the gearbox oil in my brothers 90.
He's been complaining of it being stiff when cold. So thought I'd change it.
Anyway I recon it had EP in it

Anyway back to the job in hand :p

Spats removed

Wiring was disconnected. Again was much better than past experiences of landrover electronics :)

And it's off. Looks like I'm finally getting some were :)

With the tub removed I found a bit of rot. Nowt to major mind.

Next job was to get the rocksliders of. And by feck they put up a battle. Well the n/s one did any way. Big pair of stilsons and a scaffold bar got them turning in the outrigger and then boshed 'em out with a hammer :D

DSCF1523_zps606eab90.jpg

After that it was just a case of tidying a bit of wiring up on the bulkhead. Removing loads of old added in ****e.
And removing this ugly looking thing.

DSCF1527_zpsf6aa3e24.jpg
[/IMG]

And I found a hole in the fuel tank

And on a more ****ed off note. I was told on Friday that the next job we're doing is nights  Wouldn't be bothered if it was only a couple of months like last time, But it's a full year. So as if haven't got enough time as it is I'm now going to be even worse. Don't know what to do. It's just going to make me even more of a grumpy ####wit than I already am.
But we'll see hopefully something else will come up :)

No dude I've been working a lot lately and moving house. Still have your wheel here I think I'm in need of a new welder before I start it but it will get done when the weather picks up.

Same here, Doing my head in now :( Forgot about that spare wheel anorl.
Not that I have needed it.
You got a garage at the new place then? Welding in the middle of summer is ****e. Put some layers on so you don't get burnt and then you're sweating yer bollocks of  Can't win either way.

Aaron after reading your typing I thought this id deffo a Yorkshire man, then I realised your from Donny aswell, as for wanting some galving doing my mates found a place that does it in hull, so not too far think he said 60pence a kilo for it doing! Will try and find out what's it called!
Progress loons good though
Dan

:p Yorkshire man I am. Don't know how you could tell from my typing mind.

Oh and any info you can get would be great. Need to find a shot blaster anorl. No rush got plenty to be getting on with :)

Gutter regarding the petrol tank for you mate, in general tho it's looking bloody good! The bulkhead looks solid as does the chassis. Are you going down the Richards route or are just going to have yours shot blasted and dipped.?

How difficult is it to change the rear tub matey, can it be done with the sides panels left in place attached to the roof.?! My current tub is leaking like a good'n, frigging pin holes all over the place. :(

Yes, I was ****ed of when I saw the tank  But since I'm going td5 tub. I think I'll try and fit the rear mounted td5 plastic tank.

I don't think the picture show up some of the bad bits to be honest. Rear crossmember has got 3 or 4 holes in it. Plus the couple of pics I put on last night and it wants an outrigger. Better than the last one I did if I'm completely honest.

I feel having it shot blasted and dipped isn't worth it so I will be going down the Richards route :)

The bulkhead has had the top corners replaced in the past and isn't a very good job, The foot wells have been patched and the top rail under the windscreen has seen better days. Again I would actually say it's better than the one on my last rebuild, But I want the best I can on this ;)

As for the tub, I would remove the sides. For what little effort it would take. Removing the tub itself is an easy job. Provided you've got an helping hand to lift it of.

What is wrong with yours? Couldn't you fill the pin holes?

So just a small update today. Would have liked to have got the engine and box out but as usual I ended up getting dragged of to do some thing else.

So first job. Disconnect the rest of the bulkhead wiring, brake pipes speedo and anything else connecting the bulkhead. The bulkhead to outrigger bolts put up a good fight. But the big hammer won in the end :D
Then lift the thing of. It's bloody heavy when its all complete

Bulkheads not as bad as I thought.
Drivers foot well could do with fettling.

Passenger not so bad.

Top corners have been done before. But could do with doing again to be perfect.

So don't know weather to patch it or get a replacement galv one.
