It really is cracking on now mate, each day its looking better and better!!

I suppose start small and do it at home and once the work starts picking up a small unit will be peanuts!

Cheers, It's starting to look like a landrover again I'll say that :)

Seriously I can't do anything at home. Even doing what I'm doing now ****es them of. The neighbours already think I'm running a business.
They have also told me I'm to noisy
(And I will be getting a visit if it doesn't stop  )

To be fair this was last summer.
When I asked when am I allowed to work on vehicles then her reply was "NEVER"

I said what do you propose I do then? And how am I meant to finish it.

Her reply. I don't care. Just don't do it here.

Anyway when they realised I had another one this year they came round and gave me the
"you will be getting a visit if we have a repeat of last summer"
Which was reiterated about 3 times.

To be honest for this reason and the lack of space I have been looking at units for my self not as a business venture but once I'm there things can obviously change :)

My only gripe is that renting seems like dead money, But then again there's nowt for sale either.

Why not see if you can rent a corner

Find a small company or a one man band who'd be happy with a few quid a week to help out with the rent

We'll see, I'd rather it be my own space so I can do what I want when I want sort of thing.

I know you've already stated previously, but what's the brand/type of paint your using Aaron?
It looks a really good finish, nice and shiny:)

Cheers :)
It's 2k paint. Not sure on the brand to be honest as I'm using several different product's

To be fair it's not perfect (Seem to be getting a few pin holes showing up) But it's done in a garage at home and I'm extremely happy with it :)

Tell them to f**k off.... They can't stop you doing anything mate, as long as your not doing it at an unsociable time they haven't got a leg to stand on... If i get any **** about mine i tell them where to go..

It's not my house or I would :p
But when she came round for a barney I said it's not like I'm doing it early in a morning or late at night.

Which I actually don't, But she obviously want's silence all day every day.

To be fair the thing I shouldn't be doing is painting. Pretty sure I'd get a bollocking for that.

keep going until your told not to by some1 who has the power. Then just say you didnt know you was doing wrong... Until then crack on :)

On another note do you have any rock/tree sliders for sale or a light bar at all? Pm me if you do please mate. Think thats my next purchase

How many litres do you need to do the entire vehicle? Reading your threads giving me the confidence to attempt mine :)

Go for it, Take your time and you'll do good.

It really isn't as hard as it looks and it's a landrover so you don't need perfect ;)

How much paint. Well that depends.

Are you painting it all the same colour. Or roof/bonnet different colour.

What colour as some cover better than others.

I've bought 5l and I recon I'll only use 3-1/2 at the very most.

Yeah I will do one way or the other. Believe me without something to focus on I'd be an even more miserable ####. Doing this is all good for me.

Think I've got a light bar to be fair. Will have a look tomorrow mate.

Thinking of just repainting it green as po did a crap job on it. Is that 5 litres paint or 3.5 litre paint &1.5 litre hardener?

I bought your light bar, unless you had several?
Doing a grand job on the 90 it's looking immense having seen it in the flesh before you started the thread :)

I bought 5L of paint and 2.5L of hardener and I already had the thinners.
To be fair it was either 2.5L or 5L so bought 5 just in case. Plus it's nice to have some spare.

You did by my light bar but I think I've got another one from a few years ago. You know one of them things you save for a rainy day

Oh and cheers. It's definitely changed a bit that's for sure :)

Bloody rain again

Was painting in the garage, So not a lot else got done.

Anyway. Screen, vent flaps and brackets in primer.

And painted, Not ideal weather to be fair. Nearly didn't bother but they turned out good so I'm happy.

Would have fitted them but everything is **** wet through outside and don't want to trap water between the panels.
Even though it'll leek anyway

I'm going to follow your lead and use rustoleum on the axles, radius arms, panhard etc I want to finish them in red to match the top of the Landy. Can you spray directly on top of the black rustoleum? Is that what you did?

I couldn't tell you as I haven't done it that way.
This is what I did :)
The axles were brush painted with the rustoleum.
Whereas the radius and trailing arms etc. were etch primed, the blue was some cellulose I had left and wanted to use up, And then 2k lacquer over the top.

Haven't done a lot of painting and so have a little to learn. I though etch primer was for ali? Did you use it because you already had it?
My thinking is that if rustoleum is good at holding the rust back and giving a nice finish on the axles, I could use the remainder from the tin to to the radius arms etc then paint the red on top. Wondering if I could paint directly on to the dry rustoleum or would need to flatten it slightly and if flattening it would knacker the protection of the rustoleum, it would have red cellulose over the top tho.

Etch primer can be used for any bare metal. But yes I used it because I had it and I need a base layer for the cellulose. I could have used red oxide for instance.

I'd say you will need to flat the rustoleum as paint wont stick to a smooth surface. I doubt it will knacker the protection unless you rub back down to bare metal. Which is highly unlikely.

As for cellulose over the rustoleum. I'd be concerned about the high thinners content coursing problems. So 2k would be better.

Just had a thought can rustoleum be bought in red?
Be a much easier solution.

Cheers, mate. That's the sort of clear advice I need when it comes to paint. Hadn't thought of the volatile stuff in there. I'll probably go for a good primer as you have. I am hoping to get the red as close to the rioja red, which is the original shade of red as the vehicle, doubt rustoleum do that :D

Just want to add my thanks for this thread, Aaron. Can't wait to get a Landy of my own. Trouble is, I probably won't be able to take it completely to pieces because I'll need to drive it!! Dilemmas of Landy ownership! :decision::)

The primer color will have effect on what shade the finish paint will have a light color primer will have a brighter red , than a black/dark primer will give a deeper darker color with the same paint. as well as air pressure will effect color and the thinners. right every thing down when doing the job in sections. air psi and very accurate measurements of paint, thinner, and hardener,

:scratching_chin:
Thor, that's awesome but way above me. Take on board the primer shade and will now be aware of that. Think I'll have to stick to acrylic from a can!
