A-Bar/spot clearence HELP!!!

Just tried fitting an a-bar I picked up for my '96 90, it fitted fine to the standard bumper and bumper fittings, however there is very little/no clearence between the spot light mounts and the plastic grill cover, and therefore no clearence when the spots are mounted, to the point of pretty much needing to modify the plastic grill! Anyone found this? Any suggestions before I modify the grill???
 
common problem, some spots sit back too far, in that case get a A bar designed for a AC model - maybe you have AC fitted and have the standard A bar ?
 
Mines the non a/c, and got a non a/c bar, but it just wont play ball, oh well if its a common prob I'd better get the right one :mad:
 
the AC versions sit, or are stepped, further forward, which is handy when you've got spots that sit backwards further than expected
 
With a few shims or a wedge insert under the back bolts you may get an extra half inch clearance. Not ideal I know...I got my A bar from Rebel 4x4 and 2 Wipec 8 inch lamps... just fits and the backs of the lights are snug against the grill.
 
MrJC, I tried it with the shims this morning, but theres just too much pressure on the grill, and I dont want to stress it too much as I've just put an uprated intercooler behind it, might have to fabricate something new!
 
Hey due, this is just **** design at its british best. I had the same problem. I mean how many ****ing years has exactly the same landy fittings and dimensions been around? And the singled celled dickheads that design these things still havent worked out that you need another couple of inches of space behind the spots, so move the bracket round a wee bit. Thats not to mention you have to bend the laws of physics to get a spanner on the nuts as it is. Buy an A bar for an AC model, great, why not make the right one fit in the first ****ing place!

I cut the bolt threads right back giving me a little more room to move the bolt up the bracket towards the A bar, but the back of the spots are still pushed into the grill.

Probably designed by the same ****wit that built the boyscout swinging pedestiran bridge accross the thames.

how are the A bar designers able to accommodate all depths of spots ?
 
Sean dude, really, don't mean to give cheak to a Landyzone guru, but finding out the back space of one of the most popular, regularly sold as a package, top selling, most people have em spots ain't rocket science!

put yourself in the designers shoes, were they supposed to measure EVERY single differing make/model of spot - and gaze into their perspex ball and predict how deep all spots designed in the future will be ? - and then add 10mm just in case .......

or should all spot light makers first check that their new light will fit on a depender A bar ?

what's the point of just checking a few ?

there's no standard EU spot light depth regulations, yet
