Right just had the guy out from "the man for landrovers" to assess the landy... he says that the chassis is actually bent up from where the volvo went under it plus the obvious damage to the door the crossmember wheel carrier etc. He said they could repair it with a new chassis and turn it around in about a week but the insurance will probably try to write it off...

Mike

just had the call... 5k to repair so they want to class it as a total loss. iv told them where to go lol. what would you guys value a 90 station wagon turbo diesel with 200tdi conversion and axles, 2" lift, 4 exmoor trim seats?

Mike go back to bluehaze thread and he ran into the same thing, Start a law suit against the other drivers insurance and driver. They are just playing with you hoping to get off the Hook.

Cheers i saw that im going to see what sort of offer they want to make me as i could do the repairs myself but if its crap then ill do everything i can to get it sorted.

That is what the insurance tried and by Bluehaze standing strong was able to get it repaired at a garage cheaper than insurance quote for repairs.

Have the garage give you a price to do everything in writing

the garage only looked this morning so i havent heard back from them but apparently they have quoted £5k to the insurance company. Im prepared to consider a write off and buy back settlement if they offer a decent one but want to make sure im not about to get screwed over... Any ideas for the value of my 90?

then you will have a different plate than and have a lower priced vehicle in the end. Sounds like you may be screwing yourself. Be careful. Read all of blue haze thread and the the advice of shifty.

As the accident was not your fault, and as the vehicle is not damaged to the point where it would be unsafe to repair it - they cannot write it off purely on cost grounds.

You can insist they repair it to the previous condition or give you the cash equivalent. I would take the 5k in settlement - not write it off. Do the chasis swap myself and keep the extra cash. what ever you do do not sell them the landy just take the cash in settlement

Mike stand fast,

1 Whenever you speak to anyone get their name and details, and ask if the call is being recorded.

2 Work out what you landy was worth - I used a selection of 'for sale' adds that I thought were similar.

3 £5K is lot - ask for a break down.

4 Get other estimates - I tried all the normal galv chassis people and various fitters to get the best package that suited me.

5 Accept nothing over the phone, you want it sent in writing - this will give you time to consider what they are saying. The first few offers should be ignored - tell them that the law is on your side and you feel insulted. And if it's your insurance coy say that you have been miss-sold the product as they should be doing this - ask how to make a formal complaint.

6 Get some beers in and be prepared to be a bastard with everyone - they are not your friends and only want your money. You and us want your pride and joy back on the road as it should be.

right sorry for no update for a long time... we fought the insurance for a long time but got to the point where we had had enough and wanted the car back. they wrote it off and paid out £3,800 approx and we bought it back for just over £600, i then spent the weekend welding on another cross member and straightening out the bumper and it now looks like:

I know i could've fought more and got it repaired but i had had enough and have only accepted an interim payout.
