I hear this all the bloody time..... "Jees I thought you'd just got made redundant how the Fook can you run a Rangie 4.6"

It is REALLY SIMPLE ..............When the gauge says EMPTY I go & out £30 in it .... Then I DRIVE IT!!!..... when the gauge says its empty again ..I go & put some more in it, now, THAT might be the following day, 2 days later or even 5 days later how many miles I've covered in between is irrelevent to me

I have a V8 Rangie coz I WANT A V8 RANGIE its as simple as that!!!

Hear Hear, If we were to choose our cars based on the prices at the pump we would all be runing about in Smart Cars. I'm new to the world of RR but I can't see me going back to any other car. Even my wife is a supporter as she reminds me that the only environment she is interested in is the one immediatley surrounding our kids and lets face it the Rangie is solid.

Mrrrrr Armstrong....( That was ment to sound like that Computer dude off the Matrix, yer know Mrrrrr Anderson ......)

Anyways Completely aggree ....If I had to look at me fuel gauge every 2 minutes & think "Ohhh!!!1 I'm only doin 12 or 15 MPG.....I need a Prozac every time I went out in it!!!

There a "Young Mum" accross from me with one of them tiny little 3 pot things ... JEEEEESSS!!!... My Lawn mower sounds better than that & 1 Asda carrier bag & boots full!!!... but HEY it does 78 MPG!!!...... SO WHAT!!! I still be wearin a bag on me head if I got in it!!!!

Most agree with Sir Hooded.
People who run diesels will never understand this.... :)
It is the pure pleasure of the V8.... Those smelly, smokey and slow diesels have no idea.
For me this is a hobby. Some smoke, some takes it to the pub I spned it on the 4,6 V8...
And I love every minute of it. Anyone, who is so concerned about fuel consumption should not buy one. It is that simple...

I hear what you're saying, and when I bought mine I could afford it easily. I still can afford it. But petrol has gone up approx 50% in that time so the enjoyment (V8 or not) has some what diminished. Now if my wages had gone up only half as much I'd still be driving around with a big grin!!

Well, I can not afford it easily, but still got the old girl. I have always been a car enthusiast and I have had a Rover SD1 Vitesse with the same engine. Only thing is, that I want everything just right...That is very expensive and time consuming with a 15 year old and complicated vehicle...

Get it gased then. I pay 56p at the calor depot in Bury st Edmunds. I've run mine 70k miles on it. Now thats a serious overdraft if i was on petrol. Remember you save 60p a litre so takes a very short time to get the initial outlay bay.

I have only got the RR as a second car, mainly for weekends. Would not be worth it to spend that much on a gas conversion and I would like it to stay original. I thought of it when I have purchased the car, but I got a little car instead to go to work with..

Do the numbers actually stack up though? From what I have read, guys on the forum typically get 11 or 12 mpg when running on gas - This is roughly about half of what I get on good ole 95. When I filled up this afternoon  the garage was selling autogas at 67p and 95 at 1.20. No calculators required for this one:)

My 4.6 does around 22 mpg on a run. I have multipoint LPG which gives me 220 miles on 65 litres which is about 16 - 17 mpg. As said here, you really cant beat a V8 for sound (Mine has the quad stainless exhaust system) and mines just burbles along.

It's extremely gutless at the mom and is currently in being looked at. Feels like it's running on retarded ignition all the time (Hoping it's a knock sensor).

I've also got a 2.5 Diesel but cant get it to go since changing the engine. But hey, that's another story!:D:doh:

Trip (measured over the last 700 miles) says 12.4mpg at an average of 19mph. However, although I haven't managed to change the mpg, I have increased the average mph from 17mph to 19mph. I must work out how to reset the trip...

Reckon I'm probably seeing a true 14-16mpg on a mix of town driving and blats down dual carriageways/motorway.

By the way, what's a true max mph on these 4.6's (I know the book says limited to 118mph) - I've seen 110 on the clock whilst traversing my local private runway, so that's probably an actual 95-100 and it felt like there was plenty more to come. Acceleration is crap compared to anything else I've owned since a 1.0 Metro though...anyone want to sell me a manual gearbox for a V8??

Malcolm

If ( & I don't) want to travel at 110MPH I'd be buyin an Audi R8 & NOT a Rangie.....

Rangie are built to "WAFT" along with a drivin position like yer favourite Arm chair

After they've done "WAFTIN" they get big chunky tyres stuck on em & go pull houses down or go fer a WADE in the nearest river.

like my mate Gary is sooo fond of saying ...... in a BMW or Merc you "DRIVE" to your destination..... in a Range Rover your "TAKEN" there....

Very subtle............. very descriptive......very TRUE!!!!

I like this.. bet I have worked it into normal conversation before the end of week..

Wafting maybe...but it's pretty steady at those speeds...and I prefer my waft-machine to be capable of warp-factor wafting when necessary!! >-)

Malcolm

Now WHY have I got a pic in me head of Capt Picard standing up, pointin at the viewing screen saying ...... "Warp Factor Wafting, No1.. Make it so ....................ENGAGE"

FFS am cryin with laughin here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Think i will still like to be Wafted along at 25-30 MPG rather than 13-15 MPG. If i want the burble i can buy a disc for the CD player and link the volume control to the throttle position potentiometer. :D:D:D:D

I have had 130mph out of mine, with the Speed Limit warning going crazy. Downside was fuel consumption reading of..............9.6mpg !!!!
usually on a decent run with cruise control set at 70mph on a dual carriageway/motorway I get around 20-22mpg.
It's the heavy right foot when pulling away from a standstill and driving on twisty roads that's the killer.
If you want economy, forget the Sport mode and consider buying a Fiat 500.
