4.4 Tdv8 fuel economy

Hi,
I,m just contemplating purchasing a 4.4 vogue 2014 reg, and was wondering what are peoples real experiences with fuel economy My journeys are mostly short trips of say 2 miles with a max being 10. Its a diesel but not sure which auto box. 53k miles. Thankyou for any replies.
If you buy a 4.4 litre V8, fuel economy is not something you should be worried about. Even though it's a diesel, on short runs you will be lucky to see 15mpg:eek:
 
Ok, Thanks for replies , I already run a L322 diesel and getting probably around 21 on short runs with no problems at all in last 5 years but spotted the 4.4.
Just wanted to know the real owners figures and not what the manufacturers claimed.

The 8 speed gearbox makes it a really nice drive, but at the end of the day its a V8:). We didn't buy any for fuel economy although we did buy a diesel over petrol for the L322:D.

Ok, Thanks for replies , I already run a L322 diesel and getting probably around 21 on short runs with no problems at all in last 5 years but spotted the 4.4.
Just wanted to know the real owners figures and not what the manufacturers claimed.
As a REAL owner of one of these lovely cars all i will say is DONT BUY ONE because you will not be doing the car any favours at all with that usage and in no time at all it will go wrong on you leading to massive repair bills.
Also AVOID the pre 2015 cars as they are riddled with niggles again leading to big bills.
They are awesome cars and i loved mine but i bought it for long runs and the occasional short run ( min 20 miles ) and i always got above 30 mpg in town driving sensible and over 40 on a long run on cruise at 65 - 70 mpg. If they are not serviced to the book they will in the end suffer too. I used a top indie chap who knew the cars inside out and had a proper Landrover service centre with all the very latest diagnostics and at only £70 an hour labour rate compared to main stealers £200 it was a no brainer plus he was trusted unlike main dealers who are not.
Its your money at the end of the day but if you are only going to use it for that usage then i would not bother unless you go for the petrol engine model but still expect £££££££s to pay.
 
Fantastic thread and following with interest , also keep looking at the TDV8 but alas also do very low mileage and great point as it brings it home with regards to the DPF being prematurely blocked up with short runs

I’ve even considered a petrol 5.0 litre V8 , however found the FFRR is very high regarding insurance , RRS being cheaper , seen the FFRR at group 49 , RRS at group 41 , current TDV6 D3 is group 33 , might even look at the V8 petrol D3 but they go only go to 2009

Must confess at the moment the RRS seems the most likely choice seeing it’s so similar to the D3 and know my way round one , see around 2011 it goes to the 8 x speed , however my god there’s so many RRS that have aftermarket body kits , low profile tyres fitted , would rip that lot off for starters , don’t mind admitting didn’t think I would ever consider a RRS but there doesn’t seem to be many other options

or another option if the petrol D4 but there going for around 35k so that’s out, also see most of the newer engines don’t have dipsticks but the instrument display feature

Unless of course the other option is to step away from Land Rover altogether, but then it’s deciding on what make to go for

I agree, the short journeys will kill it, especially the diesel engine. It needs to get hot enough to help maintain the injectors and the dpf system. If anything for shorter journeys a petrol engine is better.. ;)

My RRC is a second car, so the fuel cost is regulated by usage, though our 'daily' old 5 series BM isn't exactly frugal :rolleyes:

plus 1 regarding fuel consumption, also how many have we seen over the years who buy something like a FFRR and not taking into account things like , insurance , servicing , tyre costs etc as a starting point

then of course with them being such heavy motors , adding things like brake discs, pads, EPB, shoes , air suspension , 8 x wishbones and a pear tree, lol

Plus think many forget they useto be 60-80k and can’t be maintained on a shoestring budget

I like my D3, but when the time comes I wont be getting a D4, tbh I have no idea what I would replace it with, certainly not a range rover.
