I just looked at may spare 3.5 set, and finally the manual. they all are- just I never noticed before. I guess if you never had a problem with them you wouldnt look at them

Theres a big block V8 for sale in manchester mate £100 start, no reserve.

Think its a chevy!

Just pu V8 into the search bar then distance nearest first and it should come up for you as it was about 3 pages in for me!

pistons can nip pin making it tight, if you hold rod horizontal piston crown should drop toward the floor try both ways up

Good spot mate but that's a small block, big blocks are generally above 360 CID and that's where my dreams are :D

cheers James, I will check- off to the machine shop on tues if the boss decided to not be a cock lol.

noisy I am not sure about roller rockers on anything except a strip machine, I have seen them fook up big style on the road between events on the power tour. they are nice though.

you need to get one of my 4.4 motors if you want ore displacement as I am finding parts just keep falling in to my lap and its really not to0 hard, plus not worries with **** chinese parts with the aussie bits .

if you are going yank big block its gotta be a hemi though :D

Fookin ell that was close!

Crank all fine, just a polish £20 , great :D

measure of the bores revealed a major size variation, the bloke at the engineering shop said what the last re-builder had done (warning for you mark, in the nicest possible way) was fit new rings and pistons with out getting the bores worked properly which means they had been rattling in there for goodness knows how many miles. no damage as such and no real lip but the sizes were all over the place. when we look in the book the prices for fedral mogul (as used by real steel etc and the only way of avoiding chinese crap with new stuff ) pistons it was £450 a set from his supplier. He said dont bother with them go on the net and find some and gave me the part number.

Fedral mogul part numbers, dont bother lol. so I went looking for the landy part number hoping to find some old leyland bits from the good old days (if we had any :p )

just as luck would have it craddocks had 8 genuine hepalite +.20 piston assemblies left dated 1996 and for only for £22 a piece. :D bear in mind that bearmach ones are £44 each new and god knows where they make them now

so £216 for them delivered to the machine shop and he is charging me £140 for crank polish, re-bore and swapping the new pistons to the rods with a press etc.

Not free but it could have been worse.

BTW some bloke came in with a cossie block that had been bore washed, it had 10 times more step in the middle of the bore than mine had at the top lol

Yea I need to check the clearances for the rings 1st befor I install them so I dont have that problem. You got away without too much agro I gess and a result on the new old pistons!
The guys wanted allot more for that work here :(

did you have a good measure up of the bores mark? I was surprised how "wrong" mine were considering how good they looked and measured with my rudimentary kit. You really couldnt see a lip either but the bore guage dont lie :D

This bloke was old school, the place was the like of which we dont often see nowadays. he was real busy too which is a good sign :)

I did have a good mesure of the bores and there was a very slight difference but im talking 0.08mm so bloody small

thats what I thought :p

you have to measure them in a lot of different places, surprising what you find.

Mind you I expect min would have run fine for several thousand miles more even with the badly fitting pistons and the copper bearings :D
