hi guys first time i have posted so bear with me haha. right i have a d2 and i want to do a 3 inch lift but when i look for a kit i cant find one. now questions
1. what parts do i need for a 3 inch lift?
2. what will have to be modified to fit?
3. if i do a 3inch lift and a 2 inch body lift what size tyres can i run?
4. its a 4.0 v8 lpg converted what engine modifications can i do?
5.will i have to regear or will it be ok to run big wheels on standard gear ratios?
my truck is going to be more of a show truck so wont be doing much offroading. most id probaly do is drive down a country lane and get it dirty haha. awating your response guys could do with the help as internet search is crap. cheers
 
Just a few pointers about things needed. Q 1. Lots of replacement Hardy spicer joints eventually. Q 3. Your speedo will be illegal. Q 4. Fit a diesel engine.:D:D:D
 
hi i forgot about the speedo. i have just sold a d2 diesel. im a bad petrol head so couldnt resist getting a 4.0 v8 hehe so nice a smooth to drive. what modifications should i do to it?whats your opinions on this? cheers pal
 
My view .. if you're doing it for show, who cares?

1. Just fit blocks under the spings, make plates for the shocks, brake lines need moving or replacing, many other things might also not accommodate a big lift, especially steering parts trial and error.
2. Probably wings, rear doors, maybe the whole underside, bumpers, depends what you actually do. You'll need to swap out the air-bags if it has them, probably the ace, possibly you'll get the 3 amigos regularly 'cos the sensors are likely to go to cock.
3. With the right mods you can fit any size tyres you want.
4. You can do any mods to the engine you want, it's yours.
5. Yes.

But all the above don't matter if you ain't gonna use it. Waste of a good machine if you ask me.
 
so will i need to cut the arches to get big tyres on?
whats suspension parts will i need for a 3 inch lift?
i dont know if ill do offroading yet probably will when its done. will the gears need ratioing to meet for the big wheels?
im still new to modding most i done on my other d2 was terrefirma 2" lift 265/75/16 tyres on steel modulars and a snorkel. thats all i new how to do my self. but with 265/75/16s when i turned the from wheel the tyres ripped the front bumper off haha wont be making that mistake again. so i want to run 285/75/16s whats involved? cheers pal
 
Well, 285 75 16's are almost 33" tall so measure your wheel arch and see how much you need to trim. Might as well so it properly. I guess you will fit all this, then you will go 'off-roading' which may consist of driving some green lanes in a responsible manner or going to a pay and play site. If you're going Laning then you don't need all this ****. If you're going pay and play then you are going to wreck a good vehicle. If you're going on an expedition you need to do it properly. If you're just going to drive round wanting everyone to look at you, perhaps you've chosen the wrong car.
 
I've got lt 265 75 r16 on my D1 and it knocked the speedo out pretty much exactly 10%. Mostly for power reasons, I fit a 1.4 lt230 and it brought the speedo back to where it should be.

It's just a bit of banter mate. If you look at the replys, youve actually got quite a lot of information here. More than I'd expect for such a compilation of questions.

You've learned that a 3 inch lift is possible and there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. You've now got to make the decision on whether you are gonna go through with the task or not. There's not a lot more to say until you have actually started the task and have some more specific questions.

You've had good info. We don't know your budget, you don't know what you'll use it for, how can anyone give a full and complete answer?

As it happens D2 have great axles that with some work are used for many winch challenge and offroad racing vehicles, and the engine is easily worked on so it's a good base to do some radical stuff with, but it costs and you really need to be a decent fabricator, or at least be able to cut/weld/grind metal to do it. If you get a garage to do it it'll COST ...

So please, pretty please if you like, go away.
 
If you're not going to be doing serious offroading, lifting the suspension and/or body is pointless. If you are offroading, stuff like greenlanes and your average P&P site can be done with no mods at all other than some half-decent tyres. Lifting the car to put big monster-truck wheels on it will ruin the on-road performance and handling.
If you're going for a 'show truck' (whatever that means) make sure you plaster it with 'One life live it' stickers everywhere so folks know what the deal is ;)
