really i just need to replace 2, then put the pirelli on where wear faster, and then just replace them with 2 more in a year maybe, think i might just bite the bullet and buy some

Cheapest I can find is "mytyres.co.uk" where four ATs will set you back £535.60 including VAT and delivery. Halve it for two ;)
 
i know a lot cheaper, but whats the thoughts on acccelerator iota 4x4 extra load reinforced ? £75 a pop inc delivery

wheres best to buy cooper discoverer and other decent winter type tyres ?

I agree, price is extraordinary.

The other thing to check on second hand tyres is the year of manufacture - tyres more than 5 years old shouldn't really be used, unless they've been stored correctly when not on the vehicle. Every tyre should have a four digit code on it, which is the week and year of manufacture.

Crickey, my tyres were only about 25% worn when I replaced them (don't like mismatched sets) according to those idiots they'd be worth as much as the new ones I replaced 'em with! :)
 
:confused:i dont get it myself, surely they cant sell many, when i search for "nearest 1st" i have to wade through all theirs,and another similar place`s tyres, gets on my tits

surely people cant pay those sort of prices, they are asking £60s and £70s or more for tyres with 3-4mm on them :confused:


awillemsen - thanks mate il remember that code !! im not sure il get part worns, 2 new grabbers im thinking...although then thats going to make me want to buy another 2 ha, might get 2 new ones now, and 2 for the winter, although 2 scorps i have are quite decent
 
what about these ? michelin energy says both are like new with 8mm on each, would do them for 100 inc fitting, sounds ok to me, but are they 4x4 and suitable or more a car tyre ?
 
As long as the specified load rating equals or betters what's required by the car manufacturer then the tyre is fine. Noting wrong with "car" tyres on a Range Rover - just don't expect to climb mountains or pull lorries out of ditches in the snow!
 
ok so how do i check that ? what is a p38 loaod rating ? although i want tyres that are winter ready for the comming winter, if these are not 4x4 then il swearve them, looked good value for 100 fitted tho
 
The load is the number before the speed rating

i.e. 255/55 R19 109H
109 is your load rating.


PS it would appear you need a load index of 111 or better - which covers most tyres of this size.

For the P38, max axle weight is 1840kg rear and 1320kg front. So, 1840/2 = 920kg for each rear tyre, which equates to a load index of 105 or higher. Having said that, original fitment on my P38 were 109s which can take up to 1030kg each.

For the L322, max axle weight is 1850kg rear and 1530kg front, with the rear increasing to 2050kg when towing. So, 2050/2 = 1025kg for each rear tyre, which equates to a load index of 109 or higher. Don't know what the original fitment is, but it might be wise to have a bit of a margin.

4x4tyres have Nexen Roadians in stock for £106 inc VAT and delivery, NEXENs are Korean and are good quality - as good as any mid-brand out there. The closest you'll get to a branded tyre at this price. I've used NEXENs many times over the years - never had a problem.

wouldnt have a problem with nexen, ive used falkens a few times and like them, although id be better off paying an extra £35/40 a tyre and getting grabbers
 
The UHP is a high performance road biased SUV tyre. AT is the what it says on the tin "All Terrain" confusingly AT replaced AT2. The GG AT is quite simply the best all-rounder I've ever used, good on the road (but no sports tyre) great off it, surprisingly competent in mud and not far short of staggering in the snow. Of course I'm talking about 16" fitments on a P38 here - different car in a different size may be, er, different! :D

so would there be any difference in wearing down/lastability, of the at/uhp if used on roads and motorway use ? are the AT good for motorways too ? is the at a good choice if used on a p38 thats 90% road used ?

The UHP is a road tyre which should work well in winter conditions, it's not an off road tyre. It will last and will be quiet.

I can't hear any tyre noise from my ATs but then the P38 is renowned for suppression of road noise. Most of my mileage is motorway - but I do play off road occasionally. If you don't expect to go off road then the UHP is the tyre for you. It'll deal with wintry conditions but won't touch the AT in deep snow.

There is a tyre in between the two. the General Grabber HTS. A road biased, long-life tyre suitable for light off-roading.
