Hi Guys

My 2012 4.4 is throwing up the temp sensor fault intermittently and the vehicle goes into restricted performance. Seems OK for a bit when I have blasted it out on the motorway. I suspect the EGR needs cleaning.

Does the fuel additive work or do you guys know how best I should proceed?

Any help will be appreciated.

Dan

Welcome:)

Get it on diagnostics and read what codes you have, if not you could easy spend money on stuff. Not needed.

Not sure how the problem you mention is linked to the egr. Do you mean DPF as you say it’s better after a blast.
Do you do short journeys most of the time?
Tip top battery condition is important too.

Good luck.

How is a fuel additive going to clean an EGR valve? Fuel goes nowhere near it.

Exhaust gas re-circulation temperature (egr) sensor a circuit high was what came up on the reader. The guys at Land Rover told me it was 90% of the time not the sensor, but would not elaborate more. They wanted £60+VAT an hour to start investigating. The car has only done 5000 city miles in the last 3 years so I am guessing its just sooted up.Before I start paying out I was hoping for a self solve. The last time my car went in for "investigation" there was "other things" found to the tune of £2000, so not wanting that again if can be helped.

I thought I had seen some EGR cleaner that goes into the tank, but maybe not. Could be DPF cleaner.

I take it it’s a TDV8?

Have you considered it’s the cooler that’s the problem? If i remember I think there’s a stupid little thermostat in there somewhere.

Worth sourcing a good manual for the engine and more investigation. As parts on parts can get pricey.

I don’t have a manual for our TDV8 engine, still looking. But will get one soon.

Yes the 4.4 TDV8. Think its a twin turbo

Take it out on the motorway and hold yer foot to the floor.

blow the **** out.

then report back.

U need proper Diag too.

Just reread your post.
Take the missus for a weekend away (or yourself if single) and give it some legs, DPF needs a certain drive cycle to clean itself.

Ok you tight git:D
Go buy some milk in a motorway service station in Manchester or something :) go at a non rush hour time to stretch the legs.

I will tear it down the M62 tonight. Only problem is the 8 speed box keeps the revs at around 1200rpm at 70mph. at 90 it doesn't even reach 2000rpm.

The whole thing is more about getting it up to temp and then drive for at least 20 mins, above 30mph, I think.
If it is blocked the car will do it’s job in the brains and raise temps more in the DPF to burn of the soot.

Still doesn’t explain your fault but may help so worth a shot.

Does the L322 have a "Sport" mode to hold it in the gears for longer i.e. more revs before changing up?
A car with an EGR that protects itself from an "Italian Tune-up" is no-one's friend lol.

Yes it has sport mode. Never had it in sport mode in all the years I owned it

Stick it in low axle and drive around the block a few times. You will be doing several thousand RPM at 30 MPH. That should warm the DPF it up.
