Hi all,

I bought myself a 2010 Range rover sport 3.0 tdv6 hse fairly recently, and it was flawless until two months ago.

I was driving on the motorway at around 80mph when a red warning triangle popped up on the dash, along with the words restricted performance. Then within seconds the car completely cut out. I lost everything except the lights, which was a bit scary at that speed!

I had the car recovered to my home address, and typically, the next day, the country went into lockdown due to the pandemic. So I have not been able to get it into any garage for inspection.

I have had a mobile mechanic look at the car, who changed the mega fuse which had blown, so now the car cranks, but it will not fire.
After reading codes, the only one was a correlation between the maf and map sensors. So I changed all three. I also changed the fuel filter for good measure.

There is fuel getting to the rails, but no firing. I tried spraying easy start down the air intakes, but still nothing.

The mobile mechanic said it could be an issue with the dpf, but as it gave me no prior warning, and as I was on the motorway at the time it went, this seems unlikely?

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be at fault at all please?

It's been off the road for two months now, and with garages still shut, it's driving me mad!

Thankyou.

It was the 400a mega fuse directly off the battery that blew.

I was told that if the crank had broken, the crank would no longer turn? Is this not right?

The end where the starter is would most likely turn, the front end probably not.
If that mega fuse is 400a it would take something pretty serious electrically to blow it.

Ah nuts!! I was really hoping that the crank hadn't snapped!

Although seeing as it wont even fire with easy start, it seems the only thing.

Is there anything else it could be?

Get someone to crank it while you look at the front of the crank to see if it turns.
Difficult to see how a snapped crank would blow a mega fuse.
@gstuart is the man who may know

Have you any evidence the rear fuel pump belt has been changed, also that belt is timed same as engine
Any fault codes stored

That belt hasn't been changed no. I was thinking that it could be the issue, but wouldn't easy start down the air intake at least cause the engine to fire?

If Any doubts of a timing issue, you need the engine wound round to the TDC No1 with all the alignment marks/pins lined up and in place along with the flywheel timing pin/tool inserted. Then that can be ruled out first. The tensioner pulley is a fickle and rubbish design on this engine. It may have let go... But then you would have a correlation problem between camshaft and crankshaft sensors.
The rear belt isn't timed on some of the later v6 tdi's. 2.7 and 3.0.
Diagnostic will reveal sensor/electronic issues but not mechanical issues...

Rear belt on this 3.0 is timed but not on the 2.7 engine

So could I potentially just be looking at a replacement fuel pump belt?

Would the old easy start in the air intake not cause it to fire momentarily though regardless?

You need to check timing belt, can’t help thinking about that blown fuse, alternator faulty perhaps, and fried an ecu
Time to put diagnostics on it !

Mobile mechanic put a diagnostic tool on it and it only can up with the correlation between the maf and map sensors being off. I changed them and got him to clear the codes, still nothing.

I guess proper Landrover diagnostics would be more comprehensive though. I'll try and get it in as soon as they open.
