I would refrain from the easy start until you know better. It could be causing more damage..
If it wont even cough on easy start its got to be a bit more serious.
I have seen a truck engine run with a snapped crank, little noisy but not massively so.
If nothing with easy start I would be a little concerned.
Maybe a socket on the crank bolt and see if there is any lateral play, or any wobble of the crank pulley with a large screwdriver
Okay guys, thanks. I'll drain the oil out and see what it looks like next week and keep you updated. Thanks.
Hi @Saulmulvey
hopefully it’s not the engine , but as mentioned it takes some doing to blow the mega fuse
Heard a few where they will actually start with a snapped crank , I agree the best thing would be to drain the engine oil to see if there’s any bits in the oil
Indeed rear fuel belt is timed
Plse let us know how things go and plenty of us to always help
I blew a mega fuse tthe other day, bloody made me jump as went with a large crack, tail lift cable had caught and shorted out, I did not see it so fitted new fuse plugged in lead and bang, basically a dead short, 175 amp rating Iirc.
blimey mate , Bet that got ur heart pounding , need to wear some bicycle clips just in case
It was my own fault for not even checking why the fuse had blown in the first place, tested it thought sweet easy repair!
Battery sized cable right at the arse end of the trailer. caught and bared for about 3 inches, quick bodge with tape and sent him on his way.
Deadly stuff LPG, supposed to have to have ground level ventilation here with LPG to let the stuff out or a gas detector.Think we’ve all been guilty of when u think it’s a quick fix
From work, customer rang and said no heating , arrived and found the gas boiler had gone out, quick fix I thought, maybe thermocouple , dirty injector
was a floor standing boiler, kneeled down on the floor so I could see the injector , pressed the ign button a few times boiler lit and then saw a very fine blue glow go across the kitchen floor , followed by a loud bang
boiler was LPG and the customer failed to tell me he had been trying to light it all afternoon so the LPG had sat on the floor, they had a barn door type kitchen door and the bottom section was closed
I was not a happy camper with that customer and had a few choice words for him
even seen LPG boilers in cellers , , ive disconnected them immediately

Used to do a lot electrical & engine of work on boats, apart from on my own boat I wouldn't touch the gas, explosions were an all too often occurrence from gas collecting in the bilges, igniting when the bilge pump was switched onindeed, was more annoyed as I had asked the customer had he touched it, alas though my biggest mistake was not checking it was LPG , that was the first and last time I made that mistake
don’t know what the current regs are ref the LPG ,that does sound a good thing to have , ref ventilation
still made me step back when I was sent to commission an LPG boiler that was the one installed in the cellar , customer was upset when I disconnected it
he never did admit who installed it, maybe he knew they would be prosecuted
Often wonder what regs there are ref boats seeing they have lpg , years ago , once saw a guy go below deck with an empty bucket then come back out and tip it over the side, still empty
I had an intrinsically safe extractor fan to clear the bilges on my boat, used to run it for 5 minutes before switching anything on or starting the engine.Used to do a lot electrical & engine of work on boats, apart from on my own boat I wouldn't touch the gas, explosions were an all too often occurrence from gas collecting in the bilges, igniting when the bilge pump was switched on
Very good idea Alan. I had a gas fired warm air heating system in mine, with the ignition switched off, I used to put the combustion air intake into the bilge and run the fan.I had an intrinsically safe extractor fan to clear the bilges on my boat, used to run it for 5 minutes before switching anything on or starting the engine.
I remember a story about a scally who heard that you could run your gas meter backwards by reversing the pipe connections, he thought it would be quicker if he used his vacuum cleaner.when he switched on the hoover it sucked in the residual gas in the meter and blew the hoover apart.Very good idea Alan.
