If that is straight out from manifold it may sound a lot different from normal , it may be the engine needs a proper exhaust on to run proper , I have had holes in car exhaust box years ago and a lot of power lost

It was a 300tdi before now a 200tdi not sure how many parts you can use ?What engine was in it before? Could you cannibalise it for parts?
Is that replaceable? All of thatHard to tell before you get the pulley off but the crank may be toast
That would explain the bad running
