L322 2003 L322 Can’t open bonnet -battery flat

With + on the starter terminal and - on the chassis/block you should be able to turn the ignition on and open the bonnet.
 
Ah ok, that makes more sense !

I’ve a 16mm cable terminated in a slim croc clip which can just get to the terminal on the side of the starter. (Which is a denso unit E2718P)

Will need to check if that is the permanent 12V or the feed from the solenoid !
 
Bugger… it looks like the terminal I can actually reach (on the side) might be the heavy duty negative.

I’ll need to look in Rave
 
Ok, so the terminal I can access is the one in the side the others are inaccessible towards the front of the vehicle.

Maybe an earth strap connection, engine to chassis. Most engines are rubber mounted and electickery don't go through rubber! But I'd also check that with a meter first to see if that terminal is isolated from the starter motor body.

That would make a lot of sense.
I have a horrible feeling that that’s gonna be the case.
Will check for continuity but if it is an Earth strap (very flat cable) I’m back to square 1.

And, to make matters worse, I’ve just hit a deer in my daily Audi and it’s gonna be off the road for a wee while (possibly permanently)
 
I think its a positive not an earth. Its got plastic insulator under it so not connected to the body of the motor.

Can you reach the alternator (as they are on the bottom of the engine) and check cont between the big wire on that and the starter.

Or connect your slave battery to the big red in the rear fuse box and earth then see if you have volts at that terminal. If you see volts then its the direct line from the battery.👍.

One thing that I was able to do was squirrel into the back (all doors are super locked) and access the fuse box so I can get to that +ve, where would be a good place to
Get an earth ?

I also recovered my Noco lithium jump starter thingy from the depths of the boot and I remeberwd that it has a cigarette lighter attachment (in and out)

Would trickle-charging the main battery via this be of any use or would it take months ? Blow a fuse ? Burst into flames ?

Any Good earth, there is bound to be 1 near the rear fuse box.
If you get into the back then you can open the rear hatch manually little wire behind a plastic cover near the center of the hatch I think, then you can push the lower hatch release tabs with a screwdriver for complete access.

Pretty sure the fag lighter sockets are not permanent live so no you couldn't (they aren't in our 2011).

A bulb with a couple of wires taped to it makes a good enough volt checker for this case ;).

you can connect at least 10A to the rear fuse box without a problem, that's good for most car chargers

Maybe you've covered this but why can't you use the key blade in the front door? This will (should) work even when super locked

We have been over this before.
He can get in the car using the key.
Its away form home so cant charge with charger.
And just to make matters worse he cant open the bonnet broken cable/knacked latch?

Oh yea of course. So a jump starter left connected would work, limited by the thickness of the main cable to the front fuse box?
Just don't try to start it while connected
 
Ok, so I’ve now got my fully-charged NOCO HD (2000A) attached via the rear fusebox. I’ve used one of the stainless luggage tie downs as an Earth but I’m not sure if that’s good or not ? -I figured it should be fairly structural and I couldn’t find anything else obvious in the vicinity

I kinda hoped that lights would come on and the alarm go off or something but nothing at all. So either it’s not working, the battery is completely dead (it’s v. Cold today) or it’s just gonna take a whole heap of time.

Going to speak to a friendly garage to see if they’ve any smart ideas about how best to free up the bonnet catch -they were the ones who jammed it shut !

I doubt the tie down is a good earth, need to connect to the bodywork metal.
