And would like to add that the same thing happened to a mate of mine after farting about under the bonnet disconected a sensor (can't remember which one) and his aircon fan came on for which it had to go to LR who relieved him of a large wad of money to connect it up "ZEN" and stop it!!

Moral of the story is that if you ever feel like farting about with the electrics disconect your battery first!
 
Ah, now theres a very valid point! The fan only started this issue after I did the facelift/headlight upgrade, no doubt I've caught/knocked something!!:doh:
Thanks to this thread I now have a good idea how to solve this.

On the subject of the Hawkeye - can you tell me if it also allows access to the BCU to tell my motor it now has front foglamps fitted? Quote from my friendly :eek: dealer today was £90 + VAT.

I need to work out if I'm better off purchasing a Hawkeye/Nanocom myself?

I bought my Hawkeye v4 last year from the Kent Bearmach retail outlet for £253 delivered.
 
Hi, I've had this problem on my 2002 TD5. It happened after my bottom hose split and the engine got a bit warm.

My local LR specialist hooked up their autologic diagnostics, reset the aircon fans (it took them approx 1 min), relieved me of £65 + vat, and all is good.
 
This is one problem that i have on my disco that i was going to buy a Nanocom for. Does anyone know if a nanocom will be able to do the same reset as the hawkeye did? Otherwise i will buy the hawkeye.

I don't know for sure sure, but I'm confident that Nanocom will do it as well as Hawkeye.

I don't know Marcus, the aircon fan incident was on a car I sold last year :D:D:D:D:D


However, on my current non-aircon TD5 I can tell you that running without a viscous fan fitted helps with warm-up and is noticeably quieter.

I keep Hawkeye plugged in to monitor temps and the highest I've got to at the mo is 92° and that was in slow traffic. As soon as speeds increased the temp went down.

On a run the motorway (70mph) temp was 88° and A roads (60mph) was 87-88°.
 
Hi,

I have the same issue and I have taken my car to the dealership twice and they had no idea about this issue. I got them to hook it up to the system called T4 which apparently is LRs genuine diagnostic system for the TD5. However, I tried going through the menus but couldn't find any option to turn the fans off.

If anyone here is familiar with this system, can you please guide me going through what menus will lead me to an option to turn this forced assist off.
You help is much needed and would be really appreciated!!

I am from Pakistan and the TD5 Defender was never launched here but the dealer has some experience with TD5 Discos.
