Hi All. I have a 2001 P38 Diesel, currently immobilised, the EKA key input method doesn't seem to trigger any response at all. I have bought a nanocom kit as I have been advised that I can use it to input the EKA. It is due to arrive this week.
As of now, when I connect the battery:
- it enters a 20 min lockout state - will I need to wait for the display clears before using the nanocom?
- the alarm becomes active and when I open the door, the alarm sounds. Is there a way of using the nanocom whilst in this state?
Any advice, warmly received. Thanks, Phil

Yes Nanocom should work assuming you have the correct EKA code.

If the key method is not working, you probably have something wrong with the door latch (or wrong EKA).

Thanks. If I've understood the EKA input process correctly, when I lock 4 times I should see an indication on the dashboard that it is ready to receive the code, but I'm not getting anything - which would suggest either that it thinks the doors aren't all closed or the actuator is at fault?
Any thoughts as to my 2 questions?

Firstly, you must wait for the "EKA Lockout" message to disappear. Dash should then show "Engine disabled - Enter EKA". Make sure you open the front windows just in case.

Any indications after the initial 4 turns, and during the code entry will depend on the BECM settings. There's options for Sounder, Indicators, etc. so you might not see anything.

Do all the doors lock when you start the process ? Also always open the drivers door after two attemps at the EKA process. That way you will not get back into Lockout mode.

When I connect the battery, with all doors closed, the headlights blink twice and the alarm is armed. When I lock or unlock the driver's door, only the driver's door lock operates - no central locking. If I open the driver's door at any stage, the alarm goes off and I have to disconnect the battery and start again. This also means I cannot wind the window down.

Never reconnect the battery with all doors closed or locked. You might need to put up with the alarm for a short bit, while you get the windows open. Then close the door & do the EKA. Don't keep disconnecting the battery.

Which version of the EKA are you using? RHD & LHD are different !!

Can I ask if your remote is working or are you just using the key?
If only your drivers door open (key or remote) then sounds like you have a micro switch issue in the door lock itself (common problem)
Which would explain issues with entering the EKA code.

As its a 2001 model, should it not have the coil on the column around the ignition keyhole to unlock from "disabled".
Before I got my Nanocom I got locked out (very frustrating), but leaving the ignition key in position 2 and disconnecting/reconnecting the battery got it all working again. YMMV of course. It is a tip I got off the tinterweb and it worked for me. :D

Works for me too. But we don't know if the fob works yet ;) .
Plus door open on battery reconnection.

I am new to owning my P38 so this is all brand new to me - thanks everyone for your help and advice.

Defo using the RHD method for EKA input with key.

The fob is not working so I'm just using the key. I was under the impression that, in this immobilsed state, the fob and central locking didn't function?

Interesting about the ignition key in pos 2 trick - would this still require me waiting for 20 mins?

Plan of action - put key in ignition position 2 and leave door open before reconnecting battery. Hopefully alarm does not sound. Open window. Wait 20 mins. Test. Use nanocom if necessary.

Does this sound right?

Thanks again, you lovely lot.

If the dash shows "keycode lockout", wait until that times out before trying anything. If the window is open, it's easy to try the key in ignition method after reconnecting the battery !!

Once you get your Nanocom try the EKA first. Then in the BECM Inputs menu, you can check the door latches are operating correctly. Nanocom shows the Door-Open, CDL and keyswitch status as you turn the key.

Without a working fob probably not make any difference.
Stuff a sock in your alarm sounder and live with it for a while. Wait for your Nanocom.
While you are waiting take of the drivers door card now and always leave a window open, cos I can see what's coming next ;).
Also confirm your EKA with RR, free service with ID. but it doesn't cover if a PO has changed the BECM.

We dont even know what part of the world you are in so a rough location may bring help from somebody close by.

Little old Salisbury in deepest, darkest Wiltshire.

Excellent advice, I shall follow it and report back as soon as.

Thank you.

Once you get through the current problem, use the Nanocom to turn off the EKA function and the immobiliser in the BECM, you will then be able to use the car with just the key blade if the FOB is not working.

Microscratches in door need to be working to enter the EKA. Open door after sexond attempt to reset without going into lockout.

Thanks, but am I right in believing that the EKA can be inputted via the nanocom even with faulty microswitches?

Hi all. Good news and bad.
The nanocom arrived, I followed all your steps and, after the lockout message disappeared, EKA put in and everything came back to life. Yay. Turned off EKA. Wrote to the becm. Job's a goodun.
Drove her round the block, cleared out the cobwebs, left her idling to run up to normal temp. Turned her off.
Then I thought I should check out whatever systems I can via the nanocom.
Numpty that I am.
Did that, went to start and now she turns over but won't fire.
Possibility that there is no diesel as it was at rock bottom before I started.
The other thing I read is that the becm and ECU have lost sync?
If it's the latter, can this be resolved via the nanocom or do I need to buy a syncmate?
Would disconnecting the battery reset this?
Oh, and 'market not set' is now displayed but wasn't before.
Becm shows 'locked'.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Cheers, Phil.

BECM locked is normal.
First check is, have you got fuel at the injectors.
If it has lost sync, that's easy with Nanocom, you read the code from the EDC and write it back to the BECM. Disconnecting the battery is unlikely to fix the problem.
You have turned off EKA so you should also turn off the immobiliser in the BECM.
Market Not Set suggests a low battery.
