2001 P38 2.5 Diesel EKA Via NANOCOM

Update. So it's not fuel related as there is now plenty of diesel. So most likely sync related. On my nanocom, if I go P38 > EDC > BECM then happy days but if I go P38 > EDC > EDC then I get 'function locked', so I'm guessing I need to pay for this feature to be unlocked. Is it this that I need to read the code?
If that's a double yes then is a syncmate cheaper / as effective?

Sound like it needs the EDC license. FYI nanocom needs license per engine type, but all other ECU work with the existing license.

This one: https://www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/shop/product/ncom18

But best to register the Nanocom on BBS website & check what it should have. Did you buy it for the EDC ?

On main menu, select Right-Arrow / Nanocom / Setup / Unlock-Codes. Then scoll through the screens to see what licenses are loaded.

If you haven't already, use the register button, or contact BBS using the support link.:

Syncmate is a waste of money, you have a Nanocom, if you don't have the EDC module just buy it and download it as said by pwood999

FYI the BBS website also says you need the Blue diagnostic lead for EDC, but Green for everything else. What colour connector does yours have ?

I find this odd, because EDC pin-7 and both petrol ECU's use pins 7 & 15 on the diagnostic connector ? Therefore Green lead should work. Maybe someone with EDC Nano can verify ?

You didn't change it from late to early EDC or vice-versa?

Pretty sure mine is green and does both petrol and diesel. I certainly use it on both EDC and GEMS.

Thanks all for your help so far.

Just to update, I have registered with BBS and am about to buy NCOM18. I have unlock codes 05 and 08 on mine so need code 07.

I'll head over to the rangie later and follow your advice wrt reading the ECU and updating the BECM with the same code. As I don't yet have access to the EDC area, I'm hoping this will all be straight forward. Question - where is it I need to go to write the code to the BECM?

"You didn't change it from late to early EDC or vice-versa?" - no, would this have bee problematic if I had done?

I have the green lead, so hopefully that will do the trick.

Will update once done.

Thanks again.

When you get the Unlock Code, make sure you enter it in the correct position. Also they are case sensitive, so pay attention to capitals, etc.

Just waiting for my NCOM18 unlock code to come through and I'm ready but I need a steer please - the advice is to read the code from the EDC and write it back to the BECM, but I have trawled through materials & videos and cannot see where in EDC I read and where in BECM I write.
Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Sorry I cannot help as I don't have a Nanocom my diagnostic tool is a bit different.

No worries.

Thanks Grrrrr, I found a separate post on a P38 4.6 and it highlighted the Security Learn Mode for reducing, so I'll head there in the morning.

Here we go...

Further, to quote:

Nanocom Security Learn in the doesn't work in the EDC menu. You have to take the EMS number from the EDC part and write that into the immobiliser code in the BECM section. I cycled the ignition and recheck to make sure the code stuck then cranked her over and straight into life.

Loving that you guys are here.

Thanks in advance.

I wrote a How To in the Technical Section.

Happy days are here again.

Got the NCOM18, followed Grrrrrr's how to, mapped the EMS code to the immobiliser, cycled the ignition and - in true imitation - the batter was flat. A jump start later and she roared to life.

Thank you everyone for your help with this.

Now use Nanocom to turn off the EKA function and the immobiliser, it will save you a lot of hassle at some point as you will be able to operate the car with just the key blade if necessary such as when RF interference blocks the FOB signal.
